Better half and I rode the Te Awa Cycle trail from Hamilton Gardens out to Ngāruawāhia - execellent trail - mostly concrete and paved surface all the way out .
Great stops along the way to view the picturesque Waikato river. We even stopped to spend sometime viewing the equestrian show jumping they had on - path cruise's right past - so great for viewing. A few ups and downs and twists among the river fauna to make it a little more interesting - otherwise well sign posted - lacking toilet facilities further out toward Ngāruawāhia
approx. 58km cycle - 3 1/2- 4 hour out and back ( unless stop off at the Breaking Bread Cafe - recommend - we both thoroughly enjoyed it - well done Hamilton council for a great track

My brother and I walked our way to Lake Domain. It was the only way to explore new pathways. The architecture was art like a tunnel.

Business
I stayed in Hamilton for a few weeks on business and while there decided to buy a new mountain bike, to fill my down time and get some fitness going. The bike paths are great and follow the main part of railway North South, the cross town is a bit more of a challenge but worth doing, crossing the river on old bridge, as Hamilton is quite flat it lends itself well to cycling, hopefully more cycle paths are coming as other traffic on Hamilton Roads is very heavy and dangerous to cross.

This is a great ride with easy cycling and safe road crossings. It's still a bit short but great for a quick ride.

I have to admit that I don't do any cycling. However, I do walk along the great cycleways. Why? Because there are Geocaches and Munzees hidden along them. It is really good to see these cycleways being so well used. They are a real asset.

I'm a keen cyclist and have cycled around Hamilton a lot. Good cycleways anywhere are good, and Hamilton is not exception.

Get on yer bike!

Friends
Having recently taken up leisurely cycling, my friend and I have been searching out the cycle ways. The rides along the river out to Ngaruawahia was beautiful! So picturesque, easy riding and a pleasure to meet so many utilising the cycle ways. Well done to those that have made these possible!

Would highly recommend some or all of these cycleways. Great riding for families even those with young children. We stopped for coffee, playgrounds and enjoyed the rural life that runs adjacent to some of the trail. If you are visiting for a short period of time this is a great trail to even part of to see and enjoy the river and the surrondings of Hamilton.

Hamilton has some superb bike and walking trails, including the recently opened Western Rail Trail - going from the CBD all the way through to K Drive. Easy path, easy 2.5km walk - highly recommend, lots to look at or stop off on the way.
