Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We rented bikes from Cycle Gisbourne as a family with an 11 and 13 year-old. Katrina was super-responsive and extremely helpful. The bikes were well-maintained Treks and there was good choice of sizes. Katrina gave excellent route advice and we had a brilliant time. Hugely recommend.

This trip is uniquely New Zealand. It offers everything from flat riding along the beautiful Bay of Plenty with spectacular ocean views to flying down a trail through natural rainforest. Enjoy a traditional Hangi staying in farm houses, cabins on the beachfront with options of spectacular walks. Katrina our guide (owner) is a ball of energy offering lots of options including vehicle back up.

We have just completed the 3 day Rere falls cycle trip with cycle Gisborne, and loved every minute. We did the independent ride, so cycled by ourselves, but our bags were dropped, and our accomodation and meals were all waiting for us, it was like clockwork. Such a simple adventure to arrange. Katrina loves looking after people and sharing the beautiful part of NZ she lives in. We will be back for another one, maybe a bit longer next time :-) Blair & Jules

We hired e-bikes so we could explore as much as we could in the day. Gisborne is perfect for cycling. Kat gave us great information so we got the most out of our day. Highly recommend seeing Gisborne from a bike.

My son and i went for a bike ride around urban and coastal Gisborne to get the lay of the land with Anelia from Cycle Gisborne as our guide. It was such a helpful way to get to grips with this picturesque part of the world River paths and boardwalks by the beach, amazing murals and status to admire along the way. Plus we also stopped at the Cidery, well recommended, Sunshine brewery and the Gisborne Wine Centre. A really excellent way to acquaint yourself with Gisborne and because the city is almost entirely flat, you don't have to be Tour de France fit.

We wanted to do a cycle tour of some of the vineyards in Gisborne before flying back home. Gisborne Cycles made it really easy. The lady gave us recommendations on what wineries to visit, checked they would be open and planned a route along the quieter country roads. It was lovely cycling around the countryside, the wines were nice and our lunch at Matawhero was good. The bikes were in great condition and made cycling very easy. At the end of our trip, cycle gisborne even offered to drop us at the airport. So easy!

We were spending a day in sunny Gisborne as a stop on our cruise of NZ and wanted some exercise to counterbalance all the excesses of the cruise. Cycle Gisborne offered the perfect solution for us: a private guided bike tour of Gisborne and nearby wineries. It was a busy day for Cycle Gisborne as they were also doing some group tours for our fellow cruise passengers. But having had a previous experience of cycling in a large group (very slow going, and someone inevitably falls off, not having been on a bike for 20 years), we were fortunate to be able to arrange a private tour with Paul — his first for the company, as it happens. Well, we had a blast. We made one or two wrong turns through farmers’ fields but enjoyed the scenery, visiting an historic church before a wine tasting and lunch at the charming Bridge Winery. We then cycled on to a second winery set in stunning scenery before cycling back to Gisborne (about 12kms away in a strong headwind). We’d worked up a thirst on the long hot ride and made a final stop at the wonderful Sunshine Brewery, where we enjoyed a flight of their craft beers. Good thing we didn’t have to cycle too much further to return our bikes near the cruise ship dock. Thanks for an excellent day out, Paul, and thanks for the arrangements, Katrina!

The bikes were in great condition and the guide was very informative and there were plenty of stops to take in the view and the info. Stopped for a coffee and cake and continued on the ride. Very flat with only one small incline, easy ride and would recommend for anyone that could ride a bike, most of the ride is on cycle paths or back streets, only a couple of busy roads to cross.

We had no plan for our Gisborne cruise ship stop until we saw the bike hire at the arrival point. Our group of six were assisted with appropriate bikes & set off for 2 hours around foreshore & town. Accidentally took a wrong turn to discover the Sunshine Brewery just in time for some much appreciated refreshments. Tom from the hire shop also accidentally came across us on his bike & checked that we were OK with our bikes & allowed us comfortable time to return bikes. We had great fun doing something unexpected & spontaneously. Easy riding with everything provided. Give it a go!

When hopping on a bike with the Gisborne Cycle Tour Company we were taken on a journey through the fascinating history of the area from one site to the other around Gisborne. The ride was flat an easy, yet fun and entertaining. Awesome!
