Disappointing visit to what used to be a lovely jewel of the Gulf
May 2021 • Couples
We stayed on island in Cable Bay Villas for two nights with another couple and took car over on ferry,
Was really good having easy transport to really look around the island in depth.
Generally pretty disappointing, has changed considerably from 3 or 4 years ago, prices for just about everything are sky high , glass of wine on average 25 % more than mainland , food also very expensive in restaurants and supermarket .
Choice of shops was disappointing for ladies nothing really exciting or different, people almost seem not to want you visiting but definitely want your money
Will be a long time before we return

Enchanting island getaway
Jul 2020
Visited Waiheke in March 2020 just before things got crazy. Stayed a week in a friend's house near Little Oneroa Beach, and loved everything about the island. Hired a car and came across from the mainland on the ferry so we were able to get around easily. Lovely vineyards with spectacular wines and dining (Mudbrick is a stand-out with fabulous views). There are some fantastic hiking trails around the island which offer breathtaking views especially out to the north. The whole place is enchanting - a beautiful mix of natural beauty and sophistication. Will be back again one day soon ...

Paradise for wine lovers
May 2021
Waiheke Island is in Hauraki Gulf, near Auckland, New Zealand's most populous city. Waiheke Island is just over an hour by ferry from the harbour, in downtown Auckland. Although it is only a small island, Waikeke has around two dozen vineyards -- many more than you can sample in one day. You can either stay for a night -- or two -- or do a day trip and call on three or four vineyards. Waiheke Island is a magical place, there are vines everywhere.

We stayed at The Beach House, (Mudbrick owned) on Oneroa Beach. 3 minute walk to town.
In three days we dined, drove, and drank,(sober driver)at Man O War, Mudbrick, Cable Bay, dined at Tantalus ( Excellent), Red Crab, Mudbrick & Cafe Fenice & Ki Maha & the girls spent in Oneroa & Ostend. Always thoroughly enjoy a long weekend on Waiheke.

Such an enchanting island to visit, just 40mins by Ferry from Half Moon Bay. Oneroa is a convenient place to stay with its beautiful beaches, shops, cafes and restaurants.
The wineries are a treat and great places to visit, eat and for wine tasting.
Also did Olive Oil tasting too!
Fabulous views from every corner - definitely recommend.

Great for a day get away to enjoy some wine, food and beaches! Nice and relaxing to get away from the busy town centre of Auckland and relax while getting a little boozy!

Lovely day
Feb 2021
62 years old and first visit to Waiheke - it just had to be a wine trail. We spent the day here and it is lovely and unspoilt. The beaches compare to best in Europe, with the pristine white sand. The wineries are a real bonus for me, but honestly the Island is worth a lot more exploration.
If you are not an Aucklander and you have a supergold card, they don't accept them in Auckland. You need to buy a HOP Card in conjunction with your supergold card. you still get the free travel, but on the regional card. It is worth the saving - my partner did it at the wharf and took all of 10 miutes.

Paradise in our own backyard
Jan 2021 • Couples
Visited Waiheke last minute as a 40th trip when we would usually be in Australia and we were blown away. An absolutely stunning island, white sand beaches, warm water. Huge amount of wineries to visit as well as fantastic eating out options.
The vibe is very chill and laid back, whilst still being busy.
Be aware you’ll need a HOP card if you wish to travel around by bus as they don’t take cards or cash.
Highlights for us Poderi Crisci long lunch, Walking winery tour, Onetangi beach, Oneroa beach, Vino Vino restaurant Oneroa.
And just the scenery. Incredible.
