On our visit it was graduation day and many young people and families were having photos taken.
The flowers and glasshouses are stunning.
Impeccably kept they are in immaculate condition and it is hard to believe this is a free attraction.
There are a large range of various flowers styled in beautiful displays.
There is also a lush fern wry area that after walking around the museum and Auckland we were too exhausted to fully explore but it would be a lovely place to explore more.
A must see when in Auckland.
You could spend 30 mins here or hours with a picnic.

After spending several hours exploring the Auckland Museum, we walked down the hill to visit the Winter Garden.
These 2 beautiful glasshouses house an incredible range of plants, both from tropical and temperate climates.
Originally built after WW1, the houses have recently been renovated to ensure these buildings are going to continue to flourish.
The breathtaking courtyard between the houses has some lovely marble statues from the 1800's, which always make me stop and admire the artists skills.
Great place to visit while in the area, especially those who have an infinity with all things flora.

I have not been much of a plant enthusiast....so when my friends suggest this trip...I was more excited about the cafe nearby! ☺️
But when I walked into the garden, I was embraced by the beauty of all the flowers and plants! The kaleidescope was just amazing!
You have to come see it for yourself...my photos doesn't do it justice!

A “must see” place in the Auckland Domain is the Wintergardens. Two large glasshouses displaying temperate and tropical plants has been in existence since 1913. Between the two glasshouses is a terraced, enclosed courtyard with marble statues, fountains, and a fishpond. To the left side of the courtyard is the Fernery filled with native New Zealand plants. The gardens are open to the public and there is no admission cost. What a wonderful, serene haven in the middle of the city for visitors and New Zealanders alike!

Wintergarden, grand olde-worlde feel to the iconic glasshouse enclosure - sea of mesmerizing colourful flowers/plants wherever you look, foxgloves, geraniums,.. too many plants to Ahmm+Aaahh over, photos, selfies. Fascinating and beautiful (it closed for a time for restoration); exterior: we found waterlillies, ponds & fountain - will come again soon. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.)

These historic glass houses are always a joy to visit as the plants regularly change with the seasons. The beautiful deco pools and the fernery are an added treat. It costs nothing to enjoy these beautiful gardens.

Been here a few times and its always my go-to when I have a guest visiting Auckland or I stop over to go check out an exhibit at the nearby Auckland War Memorial museum.
Like:
1. The quaint cosy feel in this cottage-style eatery. Inside there some seating near the till and a lovely verandah space to eat outdoors. Also a private dining area that you can hire for events with a lovely working fireplace. Very charming.
2. The menu is simple but tasteful with a small ala carte selection, sandwiches and pastries and cakes in the counter and a lovely high tea that you have to pre-order at $39 pp or $48 with a glass of bubbly.
3. Near enough to the Botanical garden so that you can walk over to see whats in bloom in the lush greenhouse next door.
Other than getting a place to park (which is sometimes a challenge as people are at the domain for all kinds of reasons other than visiting the museum), this is definitely a great place for a weekday morning lunch, coffee or a spot of high tea.

The domains were a walking distance from where we stayed. one day we visited the Museum and afew days later went down on the lovers lane to the winter garden. This is distributed in two arenas, one for tropical plants and one for plants of the temperate region.
It can be ahalf day outing, plenty f chances to take pictures, the fernery also is beautiful and a cafe is in the midst of all this beauty.

My wife and I finished a day at this park setting at Domain after a day spent at the Auckland Museum with a peaceful stroll through these botanical gardens under glass of these greenhouses. It was a great end of the day with the sounds of water from the fountains and the duck pond and mounds and mounds of gorgeous flowers. Don’t miss this park!

My husband and I walked over here one dreary, rainy morning from the CBD. It was beautiful with cherry blossom trees all bloomed and then the gardens were stunning! We thought this was the botanical gardens, but I guess not! There were so many cool flowers that I had never seen before and so many shapes and sizes! If you love flowers and plants, or just need something to do, this is the place. Very serene. We even found an unpaved path on the way back to the city that felt like we were in the middle of a rain forest with a stream and mini waterfalls. So beautiful to think this is IN the city.

Would someone in a wheelchair be able to explore the garden?

Yes the winter garden has his own restaurant, but there are good quality restaurants and cafés around Parnell and new market area. They all so close from the winter garden.
