Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I ferried over to Waiheke on a work trip, I thought the prices were outrageous but had no trouble getting over in terms of checking in.
However, when I booked my departure, the operator on the phone booked the wrong time, told me the wrong time TWICE and so I arrived at 7pm to find out I had to pay another $200 to not be stuck overnight on the island. Even though it was the company at fault.
When I rang and booked ahead of time, I actually had the ferry company on loudspeaker as well as a witness present, I requested to hear the recorded phone call and they denied.
They told me it was on me for not checking my email conformation, despite being without receiption or wifi, (also how do you account for customers who are not internet users) and at the end of the day it’s not my job to pick up on the companies mistakes. It’s their job not to make them in the first place.
I know the company made a mistake and is really disheartening to have lost my hard earned mahi, just to get home, when I had already paid a full fee and the mistake was not mine.
They denied this and blatantly lied to me even though I had witness’ present.
Not only did I lose money from this, but I also suffer from panic and anxiety, so to have something out of my hands be blamed on me, have the company take no responsibility.. made me feel very unsafe. I suppose if you’re disabled just beware travelling with them, they do not cater to those needs.
I have emailed them with my complaint but alas no response which isn’t surprising.
I guess when there is only one ferry service you don’t have to offer quality, as you have no competition, and these companies get away with robbery.
I’ll be filing a claim in small courts if I don’t hear back or receive a full refund. It’s sad that in New Zealand, today, a company of this stature can’t provide better service.

First trip on car ferry to Waiheke from Half Moon Bay for this disabled driver. Really helpful person on phone explained the whole procedure, so much so that I could get in the right lanes and drive on and off like a seasoned traveller! Great to stay in car on the trip. Most impressed.

Booked on line for return trip to Waiheke. Complete professionals - on line and face to face (really good triple cheese toastie on board too). There’s some games in the cafe to keep the family occupied and some snacks from the cafe.

It’s clean, it’s fast, it’s efficient. Highly recommend.

The online booking and slight to change to the booking before travel was easy and received the refund within 5 days. We took our car over for a 3 day stay and the ferry was easy to drive on and off. Staff were friendly. As for the price, nothing is cost effective anymore but it was good to have a vehicle on the island to discover its delights.

We are from the U.S, and were driving New Zealands north island. We decided to bring the car over to Waiheke Island for a few days. The idea of driving on the left side of the road onto a ferry seemed a bit daunting at first but the loading process was simple, the ferry was on-time and the rides over and back were both lovely.

Always an enjoyable experience travelling with Sealink. The best part of a work day.
This was a work trip but what better way to end the day on the sea with a hot coffee and watching the sunset across Auckland. The most relaxing wind down to the day.

I had a bad experience with SeaLink. I am visiting from Australia and pre booked a return fare from Auckland to Waiheke Island. Due to potential industrial action, I cancelled my reservation well in advance ( more than 1 week ) before the date of the reservation. I paid 324 NZ dollars for the booking but on cancellation, SeaLink returned only 153 NZ dollars which is less than half of the total I payed.
When I complained via email, they said they will refund the total but they did not.
If SeaLink treats their customers like I was treated, I wonder how they treat their ferry crew who no doubt work very hard.

Aren't you lucky you've got the monopoly, Sealink. Horrendously pricey, and awful service with no loyalty to Waiheke locals. Being charged $20 on top of already outlandish pricing, to change from one sailing to another, neither of which were fully booked, is disgusting. A genuine reason (injury) for needing to change, and yet still charged. Being told that if I'd called AirNZ and asked to change flights, the charges would be much more. Come on Sealink. This new system is a big middle finger to us locals, who have no other option than to accept your charges and systems. So many people/families find it impossible to even take their vehicles off island...but hey, who cares as long as you're bringing in the big bucks, right. This is my big middle finger to you.

Absolute horrible staff at both Kennedy Point and HMB wharfs. No customer service or trouble shooting abilities. Maybe learn how not to talk down to people.
Absolute karens.

Finally got to head over to Waiheke for our son's wedding, taking the car on the Half Moon Bay to Kennedy Point was brilliant. Smooth sailing, great staff and a simple on and off process. Will definitely be doing this again
