Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stopped by for a few afternoons to do a walk around the lake. There are quite a few places to park from the multiple entrances to the park. There is a big parking lot across the road on Great North Road.
There are a few paths that all eventually go to the pathway around the lake. It is quite a nice walk around the lake, where you have to go over a few fish. There are plenty of animals to see in the area like the swans, ducks, koi and eels. Most of the paths are easy to walk along. There is a playground near the zoo end of the park which is new and quite large. There are also quite a lot of grassy areas to sit down on as well as seats and tables for picnics or rests.
Spring is a nice time to walk since you see the baby birds all around the park.

Please beware this week and the next few weeks a large forested area is to be chopped down it could be dangerous for children as it will be for wild life ,if visiting the zoo next door be prepared for dark brown river water Auckland Council says it should clear up .I was there yesterday and huge trees were being chopped down .Sorry folks this is a real warning be careful of large trucks workers and trees being removed approximately 160-200

This is a free picnic spot for everyone to enjoy and explore. The location has lovely sceneries aside from the lake with ducks, swans and eels. Fishing is not allowed here. The location is adjacent to Auckland Zoo.

Beware of burglars which is relatively common in this area. Park itself is nice though. Our car got broken into. Shame that such a nice park had to get 3 stars because of it

Nice walking track, it was clean and well maintained. Loved the greenery around. There are many fishes and eels in the lake, also there are many types of birds.

It's a beautiful park, or was, but having not visited for over a decade, we've noticed that it seems a bit neglected and unkempt.
Sure, there's been a shortage of rain which would account for very brown grass, but the lake seems dirtier than it used to be and there are weeds where there shouldn't be.
The actual surrounds are beautiful though (hence the score), even the wildlife, but the overall feel this time was one of disappointment.
Maybe the park's appearance will improve before our next visit...

This park has always been my favourite, beautiful nature, trees and the lake. All the birds, ducks and swans etc. Very nice to walk around the lake and feed the birds... you can also take a picnic a d have it on the grass or one of the benches. There is a lot of birds poo though and can be very smelly walking around on a hot day. Definitely recommend to visit when in Auckland.

Lots of people there, bring your bikes, scooters, dogs, picnic etc. Nice park and the lake looks pretty especially on a sunny day, I am slightly biased as we came here a lot as children. Next to the zoo so you can often hear the lions from the playground which is always fun. Bring old shoes you don't mind getting dirty as there is quite a bit of poop from all the ducks and geese haha.

A walk around the park was breath taking in all angles. Even in winter when some of the trees didn't have leaves, it was still a sight to marvel. Indeed, God's creation is amazing! And the Western Spring Park is a glimpse of it. There were also a variety of birds scattered around the area. And what makes it more awesome is that you can go to the park for free! So you can bring as many people, friends, and loved ones and have a picnic at the park or just walk around the place just like what we did.
