Join us on our daily guided walk through the streets of Auckland's central hub, introducing you to all the best bits of our seaside metropolis.

The walk leaves from the Queens Wharf Village (89 Quay Street) — daily* at 10am. The entire walk will take between 2.5 and 3 hours, and we’ll be walking rain or shine.

Bookings aren’t necessary, just come on down and look out for your friendly guide who will be holding a bright blue Auckland Free Walking Tours umbrella.

From Auckland’s rich history right through to the brand new developments of our fair city, your AFWT guide will walk and talk you through the changing ages of New Zealand’s largest metropolis.

Taking off from Auckland’s downtown, the walk heads up through Britomart Transport Centre, taking you through the city’s pedestrian laneways and right up to the recently renovated Auckland Art Gallery. You’ll then wander through the historic Albert Park and University of Auckland, before heading back down to Auckland’s famous viaduct precinct and across Te Wero Bridge, concluding among the hustle and bustle of the always-interesting Silo Park.

*We are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day.

We joined Alexandra, our guide and 6 other walkers on a rainy day in Auckland last week. What followed was three hours of fascinating discovery of this beautiful city. Alex took us round the less travelled parts of downtown, the interesting side streets and alleyways, all the while entertaining us with enthralling accounts of the history and development of Auckland.... Julie was great. Informative, entertaining and a great memory. Location was a little hard to find--they meet on the side of the Ferry Building. This is a long/relatively easy walk, BUT if you have difficulty walking any distances--not the walk for you. Loved getting the group shot by email!

The weather was lousy but the tour and our guide Julie was great. We love facts and there we're plenty of them. An absolutely awesome thing to do to learn where you are.

My friend and I joined the tour last May 13. Our guide Julie is very enthusiastic, fantastic, informative and very kind. The tour itself was very nice because I don't know much about Auckland or New Zealand's history that much. I really enjoyed it. There are parts in the city that I tend to overlook but when we joined the... More

My wife and I went on the free walking tour on May 12th. It was a rainy/windy day and we weren't sure of what to expect from the tour, especially since it was free. We assumed it was going to be lame and/or boring. And boy, we were wrong! We met Julie and she was even energetic on such a... More

Our study abroad group from Purdue University went on this free walking tour. We had no idea what to expect and you see "free" and think it may not be the "best"! However, we couldn't have been more wrong!! It was such an insightful tour! We learned so much more about Auckland and New Zealand! Julie was our tour guide... More

Excellent way to get your bearings and be introduced to the essence of Auckland. Julie was fantastic, fun and knowledgable. No pressure at all to pay at end of tour (no high-powered salesmanship) but it's definitely worth paying for.
