Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

All three of us agreed Darcy's walking tour of Auckland was the best we, dedicated travelers, had taken. It was fun, educational, thorough, and just the right length. We were delighted that his tour gave us enough information to find our way back to points of interest, like the art museum for further enjoyment.

Excellent walking tour, and the time flew by. Our tour guide Liz was knowledgeable and engaging. Spoke clearly and loudly enough so all could hear. The pace was rather leisurely so this tour is suitable for any age. Liz had lots of insider tips and info on other places to see and visit, and answered lots of random questions. I have yet to enjoy a "pre-paid" walking tour more than a "free" walking tour. "Free" guides always seem more engaged and ready to answer any questions, and Liz did not disappoint. We tipped what we paid for a walking tour in the next city (a pre-paid booked walking tour), which seems fair.

Thank you Darcy! This tour was terrific, and I would thoroughly recommend it. Not only was Darcy's information on the city great, but the tour enable me to not only navigate my way around Auckland in the next several days but to provide directions and information to other tourist to the city.

Fabulous tour with the delightful Vicky . Really interesting and informative. The tour was at a good pace and we covered quite a lot of ground picking up some really interesting information along the way about the history of this beautiful city. Would really recommend this tour to anyone wishing to see some of the very interesting sites of Auckland

Darcy was an excellent guide. He provided a comprehensive tour of the city communicating very clearly some fascinating information and facts about the history of NZ and the most significant sites in Auckland CBD. His communication style was superb- fun, attention-grabbing and very erudite. Having grown up, been schooled and gone to Uni in Auckland, he was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city and country.
I thoroughly recommend this walking tour, ideally at the start of your visit to Auckland so you can then draw up a list of the places you want to visit.
Well done Darcy and Auckland free walking tours.

I really enjoyed my tour with Vicky. She shared a lot of useful and interesting things about Auckland, and it was a great introduction to the city and for me to get an idea of what I would like to explore during my short visit here. The content was informative enough without being too overwhelming, and Vicky is entertaining, humourous and friendly which also makes the tour even more enjoyable. I also appreciated that she stayed behind after the tour ended to answer questions and offer more tips and info for the various places of interests and activities that we were curious about.

Our guide Darcy was a wealth of local knowledge and shared it with great wit and humor. Maybe all free walking guides are this good but Darcy was exceptional. I really believe is good nature and friendly attitude is why he had a huge group. It was also cool that he made an attempt to connect with everyone personally so no one felt left out. His talents made learning about Auckland so much fun. I highly recommend this walking tour.

We did the free city walking tour as our intro to Auckland. It was a great decision and something we’d recommend for anyone who wants to learn a little bit about the city. We were shown some new things we weren’t even aware of prior to the tour (and we did extensive research for our travel itinerary). Definitely something to recommend.
Relatively wheelchair/pushcart friendly (a couple sets of stairs but can be accommodated with a minor detour).

Darcy was a great guide especially with such a large group! He was very engaging and informative and you could tell he loves what he does. He was also really helpful in offering further recommendations, like good spots for pies, after the tour.

Our tour guide, Darcy, was excellent. His love for the city is clear and his introductions to Māori symbolism and origin stories were very interesting. We appreciated his recommendations of places to eat and grab drinks— and we know those recs were real because we bumped into him there later!

Is this walk suitable for a very active 80 year old? Mum is very physically able but could find hills a bit challenging? We will be walking in March
Written 14 January 2020
I am a fit 67 and found the tour easy, but there are certainly hills involved.

Where does the tour end?
Written 7 November 2019
At Britomart Place which is very close to where you begin at the Ferry Building (about 100 metres). The guides will help you find your way to where you need to go at the end of the tour.

I noticed that the Fuller's (boat tour operator) kiosk has a baggage storage facility. It is around the corner from where the tour starts. It may be $$$. The shop prices nearby are outrageous.

Depending on guide quality (they are usually great, some are outstanding!), we give between $10 and $20 per person. Not sure how much we gave in Auckland but it was a good tour. We have not had a bad free tour.
