Every time I come to this stadium for a concert - admittedly I'm not a sports fan, so only attended concerts - I'm reminded how bad this venue really is. When the performer is brilliant, the venue is bearable; otherwise it's just plain awful. We should be embarrassed that this is what we offer to world class performers as a venue option - I'm surprised they still come play!

What is it about this stadium? You queue for 30mins for a beer and you can only buy 4 beers. You order a burger and you wait 30mins for a burger. You go back for another beer and your only allowed two drinks. Honestly how can the UK manage 70,000 football fans every other week and NZ can't manage a concert. Really puts you off going.
Don't think I will be back and seriously I don't recommend going to see concerts there.
Same thing happened at Coldplay!!
Paid $250 for a ticket and treated like a teenager!!!

Well that's the motto I was imagining they were saying in their heads at the recent Adele concert 03.26.17. What a disaster. It wasn't just the rain that put a dampener on the event. From the very start, I knew that we were going to face obstacles! Firstly, although we'd booked a mobility park, when we followed the directions about how to enter Mt. Smart Stadium mobility parking, the road was closed!! Luckily a staff member told us to go down the road anyway, and we were directed (eventually) to where to park. The piece of paper I had in my hand showing our booking never saw the light of day - they didn't care. I guess they saw the mobility permit and just assumed we'd booked. They waved us on. We parked and made our way across uneven ground with my mom who can't walk very well, through to the "check in" area. Once through, we faced a very long walk to our seats. We asked 3 staff members how to get to our seats. Not one had a map. Not one knew where to go. I showed them the map that I had printed and then they were able to help. Eventually a wheelchair was found and we were able to get mom to our seats. I went to get some snacks with my daughter and ended up waiting 45 minutes for hot chips and a dried up chicken burger. There was no thought put into the lines at the snacks area. They could have roped the lines off like they do at airports to make them wind back and forth - but no - there was one really long line all the way back that was constantly broken by people trying to get through. Once through, we tried to get back to our seats carrying our food and our open drink bottles (they remove all caps on all bottles). It wasn't fun eating a chicken burger in the rain trying not to kick over a sprite with no cap between my feet. Maybe my motto should have been "Just get through it" lol. Afterwards, getting out of the mobility parking was a nightmare. What do you think the worst thing is that staff could have done? How about get everybody to turn around and go the other way (in their cars I mean - yeah - turn around a whole line of cars to face the opposite direction). Thank goodness Adele was amazing. If I was going back again, I would recommend: eat a big meal before you go so you don't have to wait in line for food. Bring bottled water but realize the cap will be removed. Bring a plastic supermarket bag to put your drink in so that it is easier to carry. Don't bring your favorite purse in case it gets soaked. And if there is rain forecast, leave your leather shoes at home, wear wool, and bring a poncho!

The venue for the Justin Beiber concert was great, couldnt fault the signs and people there to help, I asked 2 marshalls walking in if they knew where the taxis would be after the concert and both said they didnt. I had emailed Mt smart the week before and they said there will be plenty about but they dont have anywhere specific. It took an hour waiting on the wet grass for the traffic to calm down enough for taxis to get through and then they were parking on yellow lines, people were running across the road risking everything to catch them, police were trying to move them on, it was chaotic, we kept getting asked to use our cellphone. Dont think it should be that difficult to catch a taxi after such a big event, if there was a specific taxi area that flowed in and out, advertised on the website it would have made things easier and less of a nightmare. We would have been ok with walking half an hour to it but not knowing where to catch one we just ended up walking in circles.

knowing Warriors needed too win, it was a must, and it only reminded me - why bother! hard to get there, parking issues as always, can't take anything in (well within reason) queuing too long for food & drink, plus paying cafe/restaurant prices for limited & average product.

We went to the Eagles concert on 15 March at Mount Smart. Apart from the concert (which was good) the stadium, access, and catering reminded me of the English football stadiums in the 70's.
The access into the stadium was ok as the crowd arrival was staggered, but leaving was diabolical with pushing and shoving. The bus service to the stadium was good, but we decided to catch the train back to Auckland central due to the huge queues for the buses. Bad decision, from leaving the stadium to getting to Auckland central it took 2 hours!!
There wasn't enough food outlets and the choice wasn't the best. The food and drink outlets also had large queues.
I would suggest for sports events with smaller crowds the venue is fine. But for events with 35,000 people some paying $700 a seat, and others paying $200 to stand-up, this venue is definitely not up to standard.

A good 15 to 20 mins walk from Penrose Station but the Stadium is well equipped and easy to get around to and from the bathrooms, bars, and food stalls. No line ups or queues

Despite being very helpful in providing disability parking which was well sited the reality was a bit different. The actual car park was like a bumpy dirt track, try and bounce over that is a wheelchair or actually push someone.
Gate B selected for access was terrible It was narrow bumpy and hilly. It’s alright for me in the chair but for my daughter pushing it was a nightmare.
The worse part was going down the hill to the stadium . It was so steep I am not sure if this could be avoided and leaving going up was terrible. Luckily a couple of young men stepped up and offered to push me , my daughter could hardly move me. It was ok for those in motorised chairs of course. This possibly can’t be avoided but it is not ok. The people to be helpful were just that but not able to push chairs or even offer to help

Great place for big concerts with easy access due to council buses and trains from Britomart. Great organisation for the three concerts we have been to. There is food on site, the usual for any sports arena plus alcohol. 2 drinks per person per payment I think it is. We have caught the buses and the time traveling in to the arena is usually about 25 min and less time late at night.
No food to be taken in and water bottles must be sealed and they remove the caps. You can refill on site at various places. The west stand in the late afternoon is best as the sun is on the East stand.
All and all a great venue.

How are the seats numbered? Starting from left to right or other way? Or does this change depending on section? I have tickets for section EU43.

Hi there
It depends what kind of experience you are after. If you purchase lounge allocated tickets these are positioned in the East stand, generally provide covered seating (confirm this is the case though with the particular seats available at the time with Ticketmaster) and access to the lounge which has its own food and beverage outlet and bathroom amenities.
South Stand tickets are uncovered in tiered grandstand with a front-on view of the stage.
The entire field will be standing.
Lower east and west stand seats are uncovered, most upper east/west are covered however again just check with Ticketmaster about the particular seats available.
Hope this helps.

Going to a concert there and driving up from Tauranga then driving home afterwards. Do we risk trying to find parking in the afternoon somewhere on church or Neilson or would we be better to catch the train from one of the south stations....Has anyone done this before and have any suggestions. Don't mind paying for safe parking,

Hi Jodie, thanks for your message. Great question.
There is plenty of parking in the surrounding streets if you get there early enough. Some enterprising locals sometimes also open up their private parking for a nominal fee. Alternatively the nearest train station is Onehunga, about a 30 minute walk from the stadium.
We hope that helps. Enjoy your concert!
