Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We loved this experience in every way. Captain Bruce was amazing and we all immediately felt like we were with an old friend. His knowledge is wonderful and the only thing I could really find wrong with the outing is that we didn't give ourselves enough time! I would have easily stayed our far longer. We will take a more leisurely cruise on our next visit. Mario even got a turn at the wheel and his smile said it all!

Back in April this year, I arranged a 3-day charter with Skipper Bruce aboard Arcturus, for my husband's 60 birthday. Experiencing such a beautiful traditional sailboat with a fascinating history, while exploring the gorgeous bays, inlets and islands around Auckland, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us. Witnessing my husband at the helm, smiling the biggest smile I've ever seen, was priceless. Bruce is courteous, incredibly knowledgable, funny and philosophical (and he catches yummy fish for supper!). We were also privileged to meet the owners of this stunning vessel. Thank you, Bruce, for making our visit so memorable.

We had a fantastic evening out on the harbour with Bruce and Catherine, on possibly the most beautiful old yacht in Auckland. Even got to helm her for a few minutes... can't wait to go out again. Thank you!

It was a great day sailing to Waiheke from Auckland with Bruce and Max. A beautiful boat, amazing views and passionate crew who shared their knowledge about sailing and made it a really interesting experience. Would definitely do it again! Thanks for a great day guys

Our group of 4 took the Acturus Sunset Cruise captained by Kate with Stan as first mate. Both extremely pleasant who made the experience feel like we were sailing with friends rather than a tour. They even let me steer (the fools!)
A beautiful ship to see Auckland city from a different (and quiet) perspective.
Booking was a breeze with very prompt responses to inquiries.
Highly recommend. Look forward to doing this again ourselves.

Our family (including two teens) had a great day sailing out to Waiheke Island with Captain Bruce and his first mate Danica. We chose the 8-hour charter and paid extra for a catered seafood lunch, which was delicious. Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, and a great crew to ensure a very relaxing day on the water. Everyone in the family agreed that this was one of our favorite memories from our first visit to Auckland. We will be back and hope to sail on Arcturus with Bruce again!

If you do nothing else on the North Island of New Zealand, treat yourself to a sunset sail aboard the staysail schooner Arcturus, a fine old yacht once owned by General George Patton and lovingly restored by Captain Bruce Robertson Dunlop.
When she's not out on a private charter, Arcturus is available to take up to ten or more passengers on a first-come basis right from her slip in the heart of the city. Auckland is not only a major port city but a sail-crazy town, and seeing the harbor and open bay from a grand old sailboat in a stiff wind is more thrilling and longer lasting than some of the “extreme sports" for which New Zealand is better known. Dunlop, a master boat handler, makes sailing a 90-year-old ocean-going cruiser through harbor traffic look easy. It’s not. But he may let passengers steer and never raises his voice when correcting course or giving directions to his crew. Truly a ride to remember!

We spent our first day in Auckland sailing Arcturus; a perfect way to enjoy our first day in NZ. The crew, Captain Bruce and Max, was extremely competent, friendly and willing to discuss / educate our family on sailing a classic beautifully restored 1930 Alden sloop. A fun time was had by all. Bring layered clothing and waterproofs for inclement weather and enjoy what ever nature brings.

This was a surprise 65th birthday trip for my husband but we all loved every minute of this experience. We were so lucky with the weather and were under full sail for most of the trip. Bruce the skipper and Maxim the first mate were great company which made all the difference. it just made us realise how incredibly lucky we are to live in this beautiful City of Sails and to be out on the water with the wind filling the sails was such a treat - we can't wait to book our next trip! A very big thank you to Bruce and Maxim for a very special day - we all had a great time, including my 7 year old niece, but especially my slightly older husband!!

Skipper Bruce and first mate Max, took us for a lovely trip, even with light winds we had full sail, so it was a lovely afternoon, spent with family and friends to celebrate my husbands birthday. The boat is in beautiful condition, and had plenty of room on deck to enjoy the views.
Thank you so much.
