This museum has 2 locations with a short train track between them and an antique train that runs frequently to connect them. The track runs past the Auckland Zoo. We loved it all, but then again, we are science nerds. The museum showed technology advances...More

We parked in the car park our GPS led us to, and walked past a number of gates: no entry, no public entry, etc. Followed the purple signs, to the corner, around the corner. We walked and walked and walked. Still no sign of an...More

Fascinating motor and engineering aspects, from Wellington's history. Don't miss the tram taking you to the aircraft hangar. It has a Sunderland - standing there overwhelming you. Like the static Lancaster ! And many other examples of aircraft important to NZ aviation history. A Must.

There's just so much to talk about at Motat I really can't do it justice. My daughter finds Motat boring, but the grand-children have been converted, and now enjoy a visit for an hour or two. Lots of interesting exhibits - real blast from the...More

We enjoyed looking and reading about the aircarft. Lots of useful information for our daughter who is home schooled. Such big displays amazed us all. We would return for this specific reason

my advice would to not bother finding a motel specifically near motat, rather look into the best motels in central auckland . it's not very far from the central city
