- 192nadinerGisborne, New Zealand13 contributionsGreat place, average cafeGreat place to visit and keeps the children entertained. Great smiles coming into the park however the cafe staff namely the male staff do not look like they want to be there, no smiles and walking around looking bored. Took a long time to get coffee. Coffee is average and luke warm. Kitchen closes at 2pm so make sure youre there before then.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 January 2024
- PollyannaAuckland Central, New Zealand21 contributionsA good family day out.A big variety of exhibits to keep everyone happy, children and adults alike. A very clean venue, no rubbish anywhere and all exhibits in good order. Cafe too was rubbish free with tables cleared promptly, plus a good selection of food available at reasonable cost. The train ride was a highlight for the 5 and 10 year old children. Good value and we all enjoyed our day.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 February 2024
- melparkOpotiki, New Zealand12 contributionsGreat afternoon's entertainment for everybody.Great experience for the whole Family. Visited there on 17th March as part of a family get together in Auckland for the weekend. We travelled up to there from Eastern Bay of Plenty and Family travelled down from Whangarei. There was so much to look at and many photos taken. the train ride was good value also. the Farm Animal section was also a highlight. As for the Dinosaurs, there so many it was impossible to count them all. They are certainly well presented and life like. 10 out of ten.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 April 2024
- Paradise653123472692 contributionsAwesome Mokomoko DayButterfly Creek. What a wonderful day spent with our grown grandson, his partner, and their son. Our great Grandson. Our great grandson, was so excited by everything he saw and heard. Dinosaurs are his favourites, but he wanted to imitate the animal sounds and pet everything he saw. He was waiting for the butterfly to land on his hand, but alas they did not. He just moved on then to the next attraction. Crocodiles, and snapping his hands when he saw them, and shuddering as if he could be caught up in those jaws.. I don't know who loved the train ride the most. The 70 year olds', or the 23 month old. lol. I see a lot of new building structures, does that mean there will be more additions to the farm.? Best choice for a Sunday outing. Well worth the time, and money. Cafe for lunch and coffee. Great selection they have. Thank you, and your friendly team Sonia, We loved it. We will definitely, be back with the other grandchildren.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 1 June 2024
- Boris wAuckland, New Zealand6 contributionsFantastic experience but food was really disappointingButterfly creek is amazing for the family. We have an annual path. Unfortunately the cafe was a write off. The fries were raw and last time the fish and chips were drenched in fat. Something to work on please.Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 August 2024

Has some good features and animals but not expansive. Can be walked around in an hour so the $75 admission for a family of 4 is a little excessive. Was hoping for a lot more butterflies than there was. Good for a visit to keep small children entertained for a short period of time if you need

We had an amazing day here with our grandchildren - a 3 and a half year old and 1 year old. There is so much to see and it is all so varied - butterflies, bugs, crocs, kiwi, dinosaurs, eels, farm animals .... as well as a train ride! It is worth checking the list of Daily Animal Encounters when you arrive so that you can be at the appropriate venue for these experiences. Definitely recommend the crocodile encounter! The train ride tickets are not included in the entry price, so ask to purchase these at the front entry desk. There is a cafe for refreshments as well as a playground for the kids. The paths are all suitable for a push chair or pram. It was crowded on the day that we went, however, we were still able to enjoy all the encounters and experiences. Definitely a worthwhile place to visit.

Was pretty fun down looking place, we were expecting 15% off ticket prices as seen online but were told butterflies were back so full price had to be paid. When going in we seen 3 butterflies and even went back multiply times through the day with no further increase in butterflies. Was expensive then for what we got as we went for the butterflies. Our children enjoyed the train ride and dinosaurs. Wouldn’t go back again. Needs upgrading.

The exhibits were good but let down by the service and the signage. Starting in the carpark there is signage warning you of low lifes and the justice system (quite offensive in my view). Then we ordered coffees in the cafe and after waiting 30 minutes for them, were then told you can’t take them through the exhibits (the signage saying this is by the exhibit entrance not in the cafe where you order). We finished the day with food (ok, and reasonable prices) but then my elderly nanas cup of tea took over 20 minutes to arrive post ordering. Could be a lot better with a more friendly approach and being more customer focused. I won’t be hurrying back.
PS the Nubian goat (very friendly) was my favourite part.

We went there on our first day in Aukland expecting tp see butterflies. For 23.50 NZD ($15.50 USD) we discovered we would have the opportunity to see bugs, birds, farm animals and fanciful mystical creatures as well as dinosaurs. We really only wanted to see butterflies which were the in the name of the place. The butterfly area was well done but the rest was average.

We visited during Covid level 2, so numbers were restricted and prebooking was advised. We prebooked and travelled there by bus on our way to the airport. We spend a few hours looking at the animals and attractions. The park is well designed and very user friendly. The butterfly house is lovely and the butterfly are gorgeous. The dinosaurs dotted around the park are very exciting to see and when you see the crocodiles and Aligators you briefly wonder if they are real. A great few hours entertainment near the airport.

What an amazing complex. Something for everyone. Farm animals, Avery, Play ground, Alligators, Train ride, Aquarium, Butterflies, Otters, Roaring articulated Dinosaurs, Mythic Creatures, Kiwi, Spiders, Weta's and Eels, There is also an aerial walk which is named Rocket ropes plus a cafe. We spent 2 hours there and could have spent 2 more had we had children with us.

I was very disappointed in the cafe food. $19.50 for overcooked burnt chips that went very crispy dry, dry fish that was mostly just batter, hardly got any fish inside. Lemon that would not squeeze, i was so hungry but i could not eat the chips.the food was not even worth $5.what a rip off..would not recommend at all.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It is a shame to hear you did not enjoy your food – Our chef and kitchen team work hard to produce a range of freshly prepared food each day and we do receive a lot of great feedback about our food offering. We make very little profit from our food and the costs to buy our ingredients are continually increasing. If you had spoken with the team at the café at the time, they would have been more than happy to help.

Wow...... will definitely love to visit again on our return to Auckland.
We purchased the all access pass and i would recommend that. The dinosaurs were amazing as were the other creations throughout the park, the highlight for our 3 year old was this.......
The butterfly house was beautiful, a bit warm lol....... but so lovely and beautiful and the butterflies were beautiful.
Personally i didn't think much of buttermilk farm, not many animals and only set feeding times for the public to buy good and feed them. As we come from a country town maybe this is why i was disappointed in it as in Hawkes Bay we have much better petting zoos/farms. It is cool for maybe city kids who dont get to experience anything else.
Its a lovely set up in beautiful surroundings. Make time to see buttetfly creek.

Does anyone know who does the paintings that are for sale at this place?
I wanted to buy one but they wouldn’t send it through to Nelson.
Thanks

Hi, I will be arriving in Auckland on a stop over and will have about 4 and half hours before my next flight. What would you recommend for us to do there please? I was thinking the farm animals and the train ride. Thank you.

Hi, you will be able to do all that within that 4 hour break. All you need really is 2 hours to circle the place, especially if you have kids so you can take your time enjoyin the site. Hope this helps and safe travels.
