Our family decided to do this trip on our cruise ship stopover in Auckland. We booked the full day independently rather than paying extra as a ships excursion, and we were picked up and dropped off at the port in good time. This activity was...More
We took a group of over 30 teenagers, and did the full day and also the night tour. Both were fantastic, and the youth really enjoyed themselves, especially experiencing the canyon in the dark! All the guides were highly professional and interacted brilliantly with the...More
I've been on 8 or 9 cruises, have traveled mostly around the world and have always looked for the "adventure", whether it is hiking, kayaking, fishing, whatever is outside and keeps me busy. This is the best excursion by far - I absolutely loved every...More
This was my second time taking the tour and it was every bit as good as the first. This time I took my boyfriend who has been canyoning in many places around the world. I hoped that our NZ canyon would live up to his...More
Wow. This is the best kept secret in the Auckland area. My adult daughter and I were looking for a little adventure after long bus rides to Rotorua and Hobbiton and I was lucky to find this gem on my own when googling adventure in...More
We can’t say enough about our day canyoning. Despite being an avid hiker I had never be abseiling! My 21 year old son and I repelled down 4 waterfalls and jumped off rocks and swam thru narrow passages back down to our starting point. The...More

At first I was apprehensive about what it was we were going to do, been to Piha many times for the beach and surf, but not for hiking and climbing, I was blown away, awesome adventure though the Waitakere Rangers, amazing sea and waterfall views....More

My daughters and I thought the AWOL canyoning experience was awesome, but I wouldn't honestly recommend it for non-swimmers. Although every answer you've received so far is correct... very little swimming required, it just doesn't seem to me like an adventure for a non-swimmer. If you're good with the life jacket, you will have no problems at all. Just make sure you like the water and don't mind going under (because that is part of the fun!).
