I was a bit anxious about going solo. I need not have worried as I was with a wonderful group and tour leader. The accommodation ranged from ok to excellent. For me a clean comfortable bed and I’m happy.

There were many activities on offer but no pressure to take them up. These were offered the day before and free activities were mentioned. I would have missed some wonderful walks if they had not been mentioned by are guide. I had pre booked my activities and only 2 got cancelled bye to bad weather and time. It was easy to get alternatives.

I had the most wonderful time and for once my time away did not fly by. This could be because the pace of the tour was almost right. Every one agreed that the time at Able Tasman National park could have done with an extra day then it would be bang on the money.

After all that I would definitely go with haka again and would heartily recommend to anyone.

I was really lucky to have an amazing group who made the trip extra nice. We got to see a lot of things local and touristic that I would not have necessarily found on my own just because I don't have a car or I wouldn't have known to research for that attraction. Our guide may have been a tad disorganised, but as long as you give into the free spirit and learn to just enjoy the moment the experience continues to be enjoyable. Overall I would totally do it again but definitely mentally prepare myself more for some of the hostel experiences (I'm not the most hostel ready person you'll meet)

Thank you for taking the time to review us Pia, we appreciate it! We are thrilled you had such a nice time with your group. We love showing our tour groups a real New Zealand experience so it is great to know you saw some things you wouldn't have seen traveling solo! For future reference, if you are not happy in hostel accommodation you're able to upgrade to a twin room. We hope you do come back and join the Haka Tours Whānau again soon! All the best, Ana

Highly recommend this tour - had a great time and the guide was fantastic. The length of the tour was 7 days which was a little tight in some areas where I would like and extra day such as Queenstown. However, I only had a limited timeframe due to work commitments so this tour was perfect for getting away and visiting key areas of the south island.

I did a 16 day tour during 17th Dec to 6th Jan. I knew the dates are major holidays but this tour was sold out since June so Haka had plenty of time to plan this accordingly. They didn't and we had an awful experience most of the time. The worst parts:
1. The tour guides. We had three tour guides for a 16 days trip. Two of them were AMAZING (thanks Nick and Sam) but they DON'T work for Haka tour, so you most likely will get an awful tour guide. Our tour guide for a whole week wasn't a tour guide, he had no experience at all and basically he drove us from point A to B without making stops to any other places except for lunch so we missed most of the North Island "hidden spots".
2. Management of the tour. The worst. Pre paid activities that were booked on the wrong dates; book with a company that wasn't offering them in the selected day or not book at all. Few people missed things they wanted to do because of this. Haka took NO responsibility for this.
3. The dorms. They advertised max 4-6 shared dorms in high end hostels, only female/male and with people from the tour. At least 6 out of the 15 nights, some of these conditions were not met. Also some hostels were the worst I've ever been probably (uncomfortable mattress, dangerous stairs, spiders, no window...).

New Zealand is an amazing country and sadly, I got to miss a lot of it because of Haka. Not recommended at all.

By far the worst travel experience of our entire lives. Since the pandemic this company does not have the bandwidth to deal with the returning tourists and offers
guides and provides you with mere drivers or mentally unstable people, none of whom are accredited guides. Very poor preparedness overall, the "guides" arrives late, the van was leaking water from the roof, half the activities got cancelled, our guide abandonned the group mid trip because she had a personal mental crisis. THe group refused to replaced the guide....A complete, utter, and appalling disaster.
It s a shame, because New Zealand is an absolute gorgeous country.
Note that this trip was booked through Traverse Journeys, who got caught in the middle as they decided to partner with Haka Tour. Traverse Journeys has made reasonable efforts to remedy the situation, but the whole trip was so botched by Haka that nothing could be salvaged out of it.

I booked a trip scheduled 2nd April, the company notified me that due Covid 19 pandemic the tour would be cancelled. I was offered options of a refund or get credits. I chose refund as I was not gonna get any other time which they concurred. After 2 weeks I was contacted by one rude Eva Lawrence who stayed that the business was not doing well due to the pandemic hence they would not refund back the money?! So is that how you treat your customers? Was it my fault that you cancelled the trip due to the pandemic??! I need a refund ASAP. lizahkeru@yahoo.com

Hi Elizabeth, I'm so sorry about this. By no means do myself or my staff ever mean to be rude in any way. We are all in an incredibly difficult global situation and different laws in different countries make things very grey for business across the globe. As I mentioned in a previous correspondence you should be able to claim any and all costs directly from your travel insurance provider as our trips were cancelled on direction from the government therefore our contracts weren't cancelled by Haka they were 'frustrated' by the government regulations. I can forward your comms into our business owner Eve

We had a terrible experience. Our guide had never guided before and didn't know anything. 12 days with no information from her at all. She was just a driver but we were told she was a guide. Ha! a REAL GUIDE would have been nice.
Our vehicle was old and uncomfortable. Nothing worked. The seats were bumpy. The PA system was broken.
This company cuts corners and tries to go cheap. We tried to talk to them about couldn't get anyone to do anything., I would not recommend them

The tour was generally well organised. I particularly liked the Maori village experience because it was not a tourist attraction, but more of a home and community feeling, where we felt all very welcomed. The guide, Daniel, was also a very nice person and made us feel connected with the land. These two things made the tour much more enjoyable and not just a bus of loud tourists travelling around New Zealand.

We have just completed the Amplified Tour of New Zealand. The trip on the whole was everything we expected and more. We met some great travel friends. The Tour bus never let us down. Our guide Mike tried to keep us entertained. Mostly the hostels were great, though we did upgrade to a private room. All the activities offered were so enjoyable, do as much as you can. It was easy to book more activities on the go via the Guide.
My one and only disappointment was the Māori experience. No welcoming haka, no traditional clothing, traditional dinner cooked by a couple of backpackers and a video in the classroom until 10pm. Then a double room with bunk beds for the night?? Not sure what went wrong, although the lady was nice explaining the history.
Overall, well done HAKA Tours. We will use you again

We spent five days with your guide, Ama, and the whole family loved our time with her. The North Island is a special place, and her and my main contact, Grace, did an awesome job with our family, which included two teenagers, two 40 something adults, and two seniors. Some of the highlights were Mount Terawara helicopter ride and the Te Pa Tu cultural experience. To be honest, everything we did was special and enjoyable, and your company enhanced our trip in every way.
