    Lovely afternoon doing something unexpected:)
As our original afternoon plans had been cancelled we found ourselves wondering how to fill the day while in Auckland. Going over to Waiheke Island was suggested… We purchased our ferry & hop on/hop off bus combined tickets and caught the next ferry out with no issues. Waiheke is a quaint island with lots of wineries. We took the hop on/hop off almost the full loop, but got off at the top of the island, at Batch Winery. What a gorgeous view of the island from there! We sat to enjoy a late lunch and a couple drinks while relaxing with the breeze and sunshine. Caught the hop on/hop off back down to the wharf. As warned, there was quite a crowd for the 5:30 ferry. It filled and we had to wait for the next one which was only another 45 minutes. While that rise XS was filled to capacity, it was still a very comfortable ferry ride back to Auckland. Lovely way to spend some time.

Half Moon Bay to the city return was a brilliant first boat trip for the nephews
A school holiday afternoon return trip from Half Moon Bay to the city was a brilliant first time on a boat for three of my nephews! The timetable was easy to understand, the terminal was easy to find, spotlessly clean, and pretty. Mr 7 years-old was unexpectedly nervous while waiting for the ferry, and a little reluctant to board. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, he was soon reassured and all the boys loved the trip. They squealed with delight when the boat sped up after clearing the shallow water. The changing view of downtown Auckland kept it interesting for all of us. We had to change terminals for the the return trip and the staff were helpful at letting us know where to go. On the way back we were very lucky to spot three dolphins from the top deck. I really couldn't have asked for more.

All ran smoothly in both directions
Very pleased with the service ran on time, staff gave clear instructions and helpful throughout the journey. Was comfortable, didn't make of on board facilities but good to know they were there if needed. Vessel was clean and in good condition.

$8 NZD gets you a nice rid, $8 more gets you back
We had a half day leftover in Auckland and the weather was gorgeous so we hopped the ferry to Devonport. Heading across from Auckland you buy tickets at a window and show them to a guard. Ferry was sparsely populated at 9AM or so heading to Devonport, lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Coming back at 1PM or so there was no outside seating (Different boat), and you buy your ticket from a machine and no one checks for them on boarding, but guards on board did ask to see the tickets so good thing we held on to them. Boats seem to run on time and go every 30 or 45 minutes for much of the day.

Do not rely on this ferry service to be on time or even offer a service at all. My scheduled ferry was cancelled due to a cruise ship arriving. This has happened many times before. The ferry operators don't care because they have a monopoly. Auckland Transport prioritise tourists on cruise ships over year round commuters who use their shoddy service. Avoid the ferry service if you can.

Absolutely appalling service from start to finish. Sadly we made the mistake of booking our tickets via direct ferries website.

Avoid this company at all costs.

On the website they make you choose a timed crossing, we did and assumed this guaranteed a place on the ferry. however, when we arrived Fullers told us we only had walk on tickets. So we joined a very long queue.

The queue is often very long and you are not guaranteed a place.

Complete shambles on boarding, disinterested crew, no help. This is what you get when they have monopoly

Horrible, expensive and chaotic boarding. Staff were rude and abrupt. Getting tickets was so hard as staff were not flung English speakers and had strong accents and had a do not care attitude. Never again. Not recommended whstsoever

We caught the ferry to and from Waiheke. Make sure you arrive in Auckland with plenty of time as the ferry is busy especially during peak times. Friendly staff. Overpriced snacks and drinks.

We had a lovely trip to Rangitoto Island, spending a good half day doing the volcano summit track and back down again to the wharf. The black lava fields along most of the track were a scary reminder of the violent eruption that occurred there 600 years and more ago. All in all a wonderful way to spend a day in Auckland. The only incident that marred an otherwise pleasant day was the attitude of the lady manning the general service counter at the ferry terminal. We know the lady is busy, we know she wants to attend to as many customers as possible, but her staccato quick answers and to shoot off a "Could be" with a straight face when asked if booking the ferry ride online is cheaper is a disservice to herself and to the company's online reminder to book online to avoid congestions at the ticket counter.

Think Fullers should be ashamed of the dark patterns on their website. Top of their page it prominently displays their $95 Waiheke Reserve ferry, not telling you their regular service is only $55. I've only heard bad things about Fullers from the locals, and how if you can you should take the upstart ferry service which started in Oct 2023.
