Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We ate across the street and we stopped by this cute place because my wife is a book worm. It’s an older house in Ponsonby that they have converted every room to a secondary book store. You can also have a coffee from the back room or even enjoy the sun at the back yard. Very reasonable prices and huge selection. Worth stopping by to support a small business.

Love this Bookshop, first time I’ve got and fell in love with it the moment I walked in. It went on and on with so many books, such a good place to get lost and pick up some cute books. They seating aswell through the shop so your bale to sit and read, they also have an outdoor area so on a warm day it would be lovely. The person on the till was lovely aswell. Totally recommend if you want to have a nice wander in a bookstore.

Super quaint, well stocked second hand (a few new) bookstore with something for everyone.
So well organised, with books divided into all sorts of categories.
Loved perusing the shelves, and eventually finding a pretty decent condition copy of To Kill a Mockingbird for $4. Very reasonable!
The extra touches of free bags of citrus fruit (from the garden out back), and 'help yourself' tea and coffee made the place :D
Highly recommend and I will definitely be back!

This is a really cute, welcoming second-hand bookstore on Ponsonby Rd. It's got a huge selection of books dispersed through several cozy rooms in an old doctors house (according to the owner). It's a bit tucked back from the street, so it's easy to walk past, but well worth a stop in. There are many spaces to sit and read, and free wifi, so I like to come here and relax and enjoy the beginning of a book before I buy it. There are also beanbags out front, and a lovely garden with a hammock out back, so plenty of spaces to sit and relax. Recently, they had Sunday afternoon event with a book and poetry reading, and a chorale ensemble, that you would never find in the library or any other bookstores. I highly recommend stopping in on this hidden gem and conversing with the owner and staff, who are all lovely people.

Nearly walked past after a great breakie in Ponsonby but then double took and decided to pop in. Lovely house converted into this bookstore with a great variety of books. We each ended up buying something. Didn’t get a chance to sit in the sun garden but that is an option if you have time.

Stumbled across this gem of a second hand bookstore - so we’ll organised and you can’t help but find a great book...or 10. They provide a cup of coffee and have wonderful beanbags you can sit on to relax and read your new finds - staff are wonderful and friendly

Third time visiting NZ and Third time visiting THE OPEN BOOK. Left With a whole bag (two bags) full of fantastic non-fiction books about NZ, first contact, Maori, Pacific anthropology, Sailing, Discovery, and the odd biography. Had a Nice chat With the lady in charge, and even found one last wonderful book on top of the very decorative book-Christmas tree by the door. These books are flying to Norway, my home, to augment what I believe is becoming one of Norway's best private book Collections about the Pacific. I only know of very few really top-notch Used bookstores in Aotearoa, like Pegasus in Wellington, The Piggery in Whangarei, Hard to find Books on the South Shore or the Bookmark at Davonport, and it is such a treat to enter such Places and to know that you are going to find what you are looking for... and much more. What is special at THE OPEN BOOK is the relaxed athmosphere, the multifaceted experience, and, I have to say, the low-price Department, well organized and well stocked. 5 stars for the OPEN BOOK and I will see you NeXT Christmas! Lovely secondhand bookstore set up in a old house on Ponsonby. Grab a coffee at one of the nearby cafes and browse the books - there are rooms of them! The garden out back looks like a great place to read, though was raining when I visited. Very reasonable prices.
