I did the full day Hobiton and Waitomo glow worm caves. Very reasonably priced and our driver / guide Dwayne was so helpful and professional and real credit to the company. Constant emails and texts about being on time might have been a little over the top but it worked as we left the city early and beat the traffic which was welcome given there’s around 5 hours of driving during the day. Highly recommend

Thank you for these lovely comments about our tour and one of our tour guides. You are right that for us comunication with our guests is extremely important as we hear of far, far too many stories where other travellers miss their tours and then have to wait up to 6 hours for another. We never want that happening to any of our guests. So yes, all our guests will receieve a confirmation at the time of there original booking with their pick up information. Plus the day before a text and email as many have booked months in advance. The reason for this is that many of our guests have limited data or phone access so this ensures our reminder is receieved.

I recently spent three weeks in Auckland visiting a family member. As he had a very busy schedule during my time there I took three organised tours with Auckland Scenic Tours.
I did the full day city tour with David who has a remarkable knowledge of the city and surrounds and went out of his way to ensure the group got the most from his vast experience. He has a very professional approach while at the same time personalised the trip to each individual on the tour.
I took the full day tour to The Bay of Islands with Mike.
An early start of 4.30am did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm and the beauty of the area was well worth the considerable drive. I enjoyed the visit to Waitangi and to learn more about the Māori culture and to visit the place where the treaty was signed.
My third trip was with Matt to Hobbiton and the caves.
Once again a fantastic trip and Matt was a fantastic tour guide, again his knowledge of the countryside we passed through was exceptional.
Hobbiton is amazing and am glad I did a crash course of watching a few Lord of the Rings movies the day before. But the drive through this beautiful country and to learn more about farming methods etc made the journey so much more enjoyable for me.
Being collected and dropped back to my sons apartment on all three occasions is such a great service and made travelling solo effortless.
Well done to David, Mike and Matt and thank you for making my trips so enjoyable.

David, our tour guide, was fun and engaging, and very knowledgeable about the past and present history of Auckland. A timely pickup in a very comfortable van started the trip off right. David's interaction throughout the trip with the four of us during the all-day trip made it memorable and pleasant. We covered a lot of ground in our 8-hour trip experiencing much of the countryside via scenic back roads. The Maungauika/North Head Historic Reserve was most impressive. This tour is well worth the time!

Wow! Thank you for these lovely comments about our tour and one of our tour guides. I sense you fell in love with Auckland. We pride ourselves on our Full Day Tour of Auckland being the most comprehensive 1 Day Tour available and when you reflected on the map after the tour you would appreciate even more how much we saw and covered. We valued your comments about one of our tour guides and appreciated you commenting on the deep knowledge he had and the information that was shared with you. In our office we have one of the largest private libraries of Auckland books, maps and old photos and every one of our guides are encouraged to read and understand our past and present history. We also appreciated you commenting on one of our Mercedes Benz vehicles that as you mention are built for comfort but also have very large viewing windows which aid photography en route in between our many stops. Matt was an excellent guide getting us to Hobbiton and the Waitomo caves on time despite the rain and road closures due to flooding. He was prepared and knew how to navigate and work around the changes. We had an excellent lunch. There are numerous companies doing this tour but this was the best value when we booked. Hobbiton and the glowworm caves were the highlight of Auckland by far.

On our very first day in Auckland, we battled jet lag by booking the afternoon highlights tour of Auckland.
We were rewarded with four hours of lively commentary (by Mike, our amazing guide), a well organized overview of this cool city, and a great mix of walking & driving.
A sense of comfort & being pampered is evident by this tour right from the outset as you are picked up directly from your hotel. We went on a West Auckland Wine Tour with Auckland Scenic Tours a couple of weeks ago and it was AMAZING! Best wine tour I have been on. It included tastings at four West Auckland wineries, two course lunch and a glass of wine making it great value we were so impressed with the amount that was included for the price. Mike was very knowledgeable and helpful and just fun to be around. He even dropped us into Kingsland afterwards. Such a nice alternative to Waiheke Wine Tours and I absolutely loved Westbrook Winery the scenery was amazing. Such a fun way to spend a day with friends. Will definitely be doing this again. Thanks team!

Thank you for these lovely comments about our Wine Tasting + Vineyard Lunch Tour. Isn't this the perfect way to spend a day out with friends, even celebrating a birthday, anniversary or a Staff Xmas Function. Just to be able to sit back not having to worry about the driving and just to simply sample, savour and enjoy our fully guided Tour and the magic and enchantment that is the Wineries Out West. We have specially selected these boutique artisan wineries for the quality of their wine, their warm and friendly welcome and additionally, because they are arguably some of the most famous Vineyards in the New Zealand Wine Industry.

Auckland Scenic Tours does offer a stunning day trip to the Hobbiton. Matt was the driver of the day and we had a more than excellent scenery trip to and from the Hobbiton. See also my review on the Hobbiton visit itself. Auckland Scenic Tours did make the day even greater than was expected with its marvellous service.

We loved the head line "Hobbiton Tour into Perfection." It begs the question as to why our Hobbiton Movie Set Tour is so very popular. There are multiple reasons but it starts from the moment we receive your booking; then the subsequent engagement with our guests; we pride ourselves on our punctuality in the pickups; our late model Mercedes transportation; the route there and back that we have specially designed where we get right off the motorways onto the quaint country roads where we can truly showcase the stunning beauty of the region; clearly the Hobbiton Movie Set tour itself; but equally important, our tour guides, one of whom you mention. Our guides are renowned in our industry for their enormous knowledge, their professionalism, affability, attention-to-detail and safety focus. We want every one of our guests on any of our 20 tours to have as you say, "an experience that was even greater than expected." Thank you sincerely for choosing our tour.

We absolutely loved the tour! Mike was entertaining, enthusiastic, funny and made everyone in the tour guide feel comfortable and informed. Never been to Hobbiton before but have to say it was bloody great, well worth the time and money... & enjoyed the detail/perfection that Sir Peter Jackson inspired.
We’d well recommend you go asap before it gets filled with tourists again, nothing against tourists it’s just easier when there’s a few less people there, plus we need to support local.
Haven’t been to Waitomo Caves in more years than I want to admit, but it was really amazing, even better than I remembered... surreal experience.
David our tour guide & Auckland Scenic Tours were fabulous & so easy to deal with.
Support local and go direct as it really helps the local companies, plus keeps money in NZ, which we really need.🤗

My family and I went on a wine tour located out in West Auckland. We went to four wineries in total and got to sample a lot of different wines. There were 7 of us in total.
We were taught how to sniff and taste the wine and the price included lunch as well. It was an absolutely stunning tour. Majority of us had never tasted wine before so it was educational as well as fun.
I recommend anyone to try this out as our tour guide was amazing and very knowledgeable!! Best day ever!

The movie set is located in the city of Matamata. It is quite far from the Auckland Airport & is 2.5 hours away from Auckland depending on traffic.

Yes. We are coming in on the Radiance of the Sea. The ship leaves Sidney and ends in Auckland after a 11 day cruise on December 1st. We leave to go back home on the2nd- so we will have the full day. You are right- a previous cruise we were to be on in April had Auckland as a port to visit. This cruise however ends at Auckland. We were just trying to fill our day to see Auckland and the glow worms were in our list.

We will be coming in from a cruise around New Zealand and arrive in Auckland December 1st. I am sure that by the time we get clearance to leave the ship, it will be around 8-9 AM. Are there any tours that leave that late and go to the Hobbiton move set/glowworm cave tour?

Hi. We presume that you are on the Radiance of the Seas which arrives in port at 6:30am and leaves at 6pm. You do not have time to do both Hobbiton and the Caves. You could do one or the other but definitely not both. You would likely disembark around 7:00am-7:15am and need to be back on board by no later than 5:30pm. You cannot do both due to the travel distances out of Auckland.
Hobbiton you could definitely do and you will see this Ship to Shore Cruise product available to be booked

My son and I wish to do the combination Hobbiton movie set/glowworm cave tour. We are staying at a B&B in Cambridge and have our own car, so we won't need to be picked up at a hotel. Please advise on how to book this as well as tour start times and driving directions from Cambridge.

Thank you for your enquiry. Cambridge is about a 30 minute drive to the Hobbiton Movie Set. Google maps will likely show you 2 routes that you could take Tours operate from 9am to 3:30pm, though later in summer.

Good Morning, Thank you for your interest in our tours. On the 29th January the cruise ship, the Maasdam, is arriving in Auckland so we have allocated transportation to the ship for our full day tours. This arrives in port at 7am and leaves at 4pm. Are you staying at a hotel in Auckland or on the Maasdam or?
As we would be happy to try to accommodate you but within the time frame of the arrival/departure as above. So it would be likely that the tour would start around 8am and finish around 3pm. This is our signature full day tour that our clients say is outstanding. Kindly advise
