Great Trip, especially thanks to our tour guide Danny. We got interesting facts about New Zealand on the way and also great tipps for what else to see and do in this beautiful country.

Really enjoyed this tour and found that the two activities actually quite complimented each other! Hobbiton is definitely worth seeing even if you aren't an avid Lord of the Rings fan. The attention to the detail is very interesting to see and hear about. The glow worm caves are amazing and seeing it in real life is very mesmerising. Brenda our guide was so lovely and pointed out some interesting things we passed along the way, shared some interesting kiwi related info and always made sure everyone was okay. Would definitely recommend!

This day trip was the best! Our guide Geoff was so knowledgeable and gave us heaps of extra information about NZ the whole trip. We had heaps of time at Hobbiton and it really was magic. A great way to take the stress out of driving around these attractions yourself. You learn so much more on this tour!

So impressed with every aspect of this tour! Our guide Amethyst was simply informative, helpful and went out of her way to make every person in our group feel amazing. A simply beautiful human. As someone who loves everything LOTR! It exceeded my expectations. Hobbiton movie set is a must see! Waitomo Caves- like WOW! This hour is a most do for all travelling to Aukland. ❤️ Thank you for making my 50th birthday so incredible!

So fun! It was a long day but totally worth it. My sister has never seen the Lord of the Rings movies, and she had a great time as well. Mike, our tour guide, was excellent. He shared a lot of information about New Zealand, and it was awesome that he was able to pick us up directly from our AirBnB.

What a special tour and day to spend with your sister in arguably the most magical and enchanting place in New Zealand. Yes, we pick up from any accommodation in the Downtown CBD and also have 1 pickup location for anyone staying near the airport.
Yes, you can't escape the travel as the attractions are 2 hours south of Auckland in the middle of nowhere; literally Middle Earth as you experienced. But what we do to mitigate this is to travel on an exclusively designed route which gets us into the country and on to the quaint country roads so you can see the real New Zealand with the stunningly spectacular and ever changing scenery of the region. Thank you for your lovely comments about one of our tour guides. It was a privilege hosting you both.

Just completed the 8 hour tour with Mike as our guide. Amazing. This tour ventured through the city and out to the countryside to see many sites at a very relaxed pace. Mike was informative, helpful and truly enjoys his job. We were a group of 9 couples and families who shared a great day. Highly recommend this to first time visitors to Auckland.

Perfect for those staying at a local hotel or arriving on a cruise ship (we pick up at the port) and want to see as much of Auckland as possible in 8-Hours. Our tour does exactly that. On our very first ever day in New Zealand, Mike picked us up (as well as four others on a rainy afternoon right at our CBD hotels with a broad smile. This set the tone for the four hour tour in which we (jet lagged though we were), allowed us to get a good sense of the city of Auckland and its environs. His positive banter along with excellent driving skills gave us the freedom to relax, soak in the new places we were seeing, and kept us laughing as well as informed while the numerous stops kept us alert and happy. This was an excellent choice for an orientation tour of this beautiful city. P..S. His prediction of sunny skies in the latter half of the tour came through as well...!

Thank you for these lovely and detailed comments about our 4-Hour Half Day (Morning or Afternoon) Day Tour of Auckland and one of our tour guides. You are right that our tour is the perfect way to quickly get orientated to our city. You would have seen the route that we travel when you were aloft 2 of our 53 extinct volcanoes and marvelled at how much we can showcase in just 4-hours. We have so designed our tour. The trip was great to see the countryside of New Zealand. Danny was an amazing and very knowledgeable tour guide, and I would highly recommend him! It was great to see where the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings films had some filming. The true fan of LOTR will definitely want to check it out.
The Glowworm Caves were neat to see, but I was expecting a lot more than the short trip it was. Also disappointing was that you are not allowed to take pictures or videos in the caves for the glowworms. That would have been very memorable.

You are so right that LOTR fans will marvel at our tour. But as you experienced, you do not have to have watched any of the Movies or read any of the Tolkein books to marvel at our magical and enchanting tour. Half the 1 Million guests that visit the Movie Set annually have never done either. Our tour is a stand alone tour. Add in one of our highly knowledgeable guides, and you truly have a very special day and experience. Yes, you are right that you cannot take photos in the Caves where the glowworms us. The reason for this is that if everyone is flashing you will not see what you came to see; but more importantly, the glowworms react negatively to light and will turn their lights totally off. So what you came to see, you will not see and then it takes about 2 hours for them to return to their full luminescence. So your best camera are your eyes. It was a privilege hosting you. The movie set is located in the city of Matamata. It is quite far from the Auckland Airport & is 2.5 hours away from Auckland depending on traffic.

Yes. We are coming in on the Radiance of the Sea. The ship leaves Sidney and ends in Auckland after a 11 day cruise on December 1st. We leave to go back home on the2nd- so we will have the full day. You are right- a previous cruise we were to be on in April had Auckland as a port to visit. This cruise however ends at Auckland. We were just trying to fill our day to see Auckland and the glow worms were in our list.

We will be coming in from a cruise around New Zealand and arrive in Auckland December 1st. I am sure that by the time we get clearance to leave the ship, it will be around 8-9 AM. Are there any tours that leave that late and go to the Hobbiton move set/glowworm cave tour?

Hi. We presume that you are on the Radiance of the Seas which arrives in port at 6:30am and leaves at 6pm. You do not have time to do both Hobbiton and the Caves. You could do one or the other but definitely not both. You would likely disembark around 7:00am-7:15am and need to be back on board by no later than 5:30pm. You cannot do both due to the travel distances out of Auckland.
Hobbiton you could definitely do and you will see this Ship to Shore Cruise product available to be booked

My son and I wish to do the combination Hobbiton movie set/glowworm cave tour. We are staying at a B&B in Cambridge and have our own car, so we won't need to be picked up at a hotel. Please advise on how to book this as well as tour start times and driving directions from Cambridge.

Thank you for your enquiry. Cambridge is about a 30 minute drive to the Hobbiton Movie Set. Google maps will likely show you 2 routes that you could take Tours operate from 9am to 3:30pm, though later in summer.

Good Morning, Thank you for your interest in our tours. On the 29th January the cruise ship, the Maasdam, is arriving in Auckland so we have allocated transportation to the ship for our full day tours. This arrives in port at 7am and leaves at 4pm. Are you staying at a hotel in Auckland or on the Maasdam or?
As we would be happy to try to accommodate you but within the time frame of the arrival/departure as above. So it would be likely that the tour would start around 8am and finish around 3pm. This is our signature full day tour that our clients say is outstanding. Kindly advise
