Comfortable seating, plenty of leg room, personable ushers but no ice cream sellers walking through theatre during intermission, easy parking.

Dara O’Briain show
Sep 2019 • Solo
I thought the venue was really good, very comfortable seating, easy to get around and the acoustics were good. There are lots of restaurant options nearby if you wanted to get a meal before a show, but might be best to make a reservation as a lot of people do this

Opera......

We went to see the Barber of Seville my first trip to the ASB Theatre although be careful as there is another ASB Theatre on the waterfront 😎 It was a $1.50 Uber to get to the right place.......
Easy access, plenty of facilities and the seating was comfortable with plenty of leg room.
A decent venue and highly recommended. Enjoy......

Tim Minchin - Acoustics Unbearable
Apr 2019 • Couples
We booked a trip to Auckland to see Tim Minchin about a week ago. Purchased seats V37-38 in the middle section. As soon as the "please put your phone away" recording played we were concerned about the volume but hoped it would he turned down for the show. The first song was a torture session of completely over the top volume. I was wincing in my seat. Asked my partner if we could leave then and there but we had a few people to get past so we sat through another song, but which point I was starting to experience pain in one of my ears. We escaped after two songs and tried to speak to the staff about the issue. They said it was normal and to consider wearing ear plugs. Given the sound was so loud it was reverberating we decided against that. Over $200 down the drain and extremely disappointed not to get to watch the show, but sitting through it would literally have been a torture session, not the wonderful experience we had been hoping for. Have no idea how anyone else there coped quite frankly.

Graduatiob

Good venue. Spacious. Clean facilities. Family orientated. Each time we have come for my wife’s graduation each time we are comfortable. The space is a great space to enjoy and even the waiting areas are good. Screens on the outside for you to watch if you leave the main area.

Excellent, excellent, excellent
Could have stayed there all day. Wish the were more installations of his work.
Great lighting, great pieces and informative.
The venue is lovely and totally fit for purpose. Staff are friendly and helpful (and very tolerant, as I witnessed a very rude member of public, handled very diplomatically).
The venue has a large café/restaurant and many other food outlets near by.
There is a large square, with deckchair seating, outside, often with free entertainment.
A great place to visit, whatever the event.

Modern Theater with Stadium Seating & Good Acoustics
Oct 2017 • Couples
We came to Auckland from Wellington to see the world-class operatic soprano, Anna Netrebko, perform one night only on her first trip to NZ (with tenor Yusif Eyvazov, baritone Elchin Azizov, and conductor Mikhail Tatarnikov). Tickets were snapped up quickly, and the best seats we could get were way in the back and far to the side. We were worried that this location would diminish the experience of seeing her in what was for us an unfamiliar place, rather than at the Vienna State Opera, where we had previously enjoyed her performances.

We need not have worried. This hall is acoustically superb, and the steep stadium seating makes it possible to get a good view, even from afar. While we wish we had been able to sit closer to the stage, our experience was still a good one.

Given the capacity crowd, things were a little congested during the intermission, despite there being a fairly large area set aside for patrons to enjoy a drink and/or snack. This is not the most most appealing foyer we've been in, and lines of people seeking refreshments were long. So we did not linger. What matters, though, is the musical experience, and that was a fine one.

As others have noted, the theater is centrally located and easy to get to. Missing from the immediate vicinity, however, seemed to us to be a nice, quiet, well-appointed restaurant to enjoy a pre-theater dinner of a quality on par with that of the presentation we were about to see. If there was one nearby, we regret we missed it. We did look hard. What we saw were a lot of noisy, sorry to say shabby, eateries, which doesn't mean the food wasn't good, simply that they lacked the ambience we were seeking on what was for us a very special night. So we started earlier and dined further away, which worked out well.

This is something first-time visitors might want to take into account when attending a concert here. Auckland has some great restaurants. We just didn't find any right nearby the theater, as we had hoped. Planning ahead saved the day (or, rather, the night).

Saw the Russian Ballet at the Aotea Theater. First class venue in the heart of Auckland. Very comfortable seating. Would definitely visit again.
