We were lucky as kids to camp and have this beautiful lake as our swimming pool and back yard. You would always feel refreshed when dipping in the lake clean, clear and serene.

A very beautiful blue lake with the volcano at the rear. Lots of watersports and great walking around the lake.

We stayed for 1 night in Taupo and went for an evening walk around the edge of the lake - the scenery is stunning and there seems to be a lot to do there, even though it was all closing up when we walked round. The flies are the only off-putting thing but you get them anywhere near water, just remember to take/apply bug spray!

Beautiful scenery. This lake is a volcanic crater. It is massive. Iced capped mountain. Great for water sports and families.

I happened to pass by Lake Taupo on a bus journey from Wellington to Rotorua and was mesmerized by it’s beauty. The lake is quite expansive and the geography of it’s surroundings changes significantly as one passes by. It was not in my plan to spend a few days in Lake Taupo, which I do regret but I’ll certainly stay around Lake Taupo, during my next visit to North Island in New Zealand. Several water related activities are available at Lake Taupo as well.
