Heirisson Island isn’t very large so you can easily walk right around it. I was led to believe that I would see a lot of kangaroos, but I only seen one kangaroo and four ducks.

A visit to Heirisson Island may be interesting if you would like to see an area of Perth which hasn't undergone much development at all in the past 30 years. Passing over the causeway bridge on my recent visit there really didn't seem to have...More

It is quite a surprise to many, that kangaroos can be found so close to the city. If driving, you do need to park in the public car park and walk across the road bridge, then walk down along side the river to the entrance...More

It is a place that good to relax from your busy day. If you want to see the kangaroos(small) without going to the zoo, you can go there and can look for it easily .They stay in groups. You can get close to them if...More

Heirison Island is in the Swan River, traversed by the Causeway. For years it was a wilderness, now it is quite pleasant. It is a refuge for wildlife. Watch out for Joe Blakes, rhyming slang for snakes. Leave them alone and it is almost certain...More

We walked via the Causeway to Heirisson Island from the free (CAT) bus stop called WACA. If you want to see the kangaroos, it's best to go at about 5.30 p.m., so that you're walking around in the Kangaroo enclosure at dusk, which is when...More

We went to the Heirisson Island to see the kangaroos. We searched them for a whole hour, but found nothing. Even though we went into the part of the park where the Kangaroos were supposed to be there, we could not find them. We decided...More

We visited on a very hot and sunny day. After 1.5 hours walking around, we did not see any kangaroos, despite searching hard and speaking to other people who we met there, who were also unlucky. Maybe it was too hot for them and they...More

Easily to get to via the Red Cat bus from the WACA stop and a short (ish) walk. There seems to be some conservation work going on when I visited but is still a fantastic area just outside of the hustle of the city. You...More

Well, I don't live in Perth, but July is in winter there, and the kangaroos are always on the island, so as long as it isn't raining, I think a July afternoon/evening just before sunset would be perfect.
