This is one of Perths great secret treasures and its only a short walk from the city. Originally a marshland of swampy waterway that enabled crossing of the river, Heirisson Island was developed to enable traffic to cross from the city to suburbs south east...More

We visited on a very hot and sunny day. After 1.5 hours walking around, we did not see any kangaroos, despite searching hard and speaking to other people who we met there, who were also unlucky. Maybe it was too hot for them and they...More

Easily to get to via the Red Cat bus from the WACA stop and a short (ish) walk. There seems to be some conservation work going on when I visited but is still a fantastic area just outside of the hustle of the city. You...More

We were there in December 2015 and it was very cool to see the kangaroos in the wild and close by! We enjoyed it.

Well, I don't live in Perth, but July is in winter there, and the kangaroos are always on the island, so as long as it isn't raining, I think a July afternoon/evening just before sunset would be perfect.
