I took the Overland from Melbourne to Adelaide and returned the same way. It was a pleasant expereience all the way. The service was good with polite and friendly customer service staff. I travelled Red Premium which included served breakfast and lunch and morning/afternoon tea....More

The Overland of the 70s through the 90s was something of a classic, the old old maroon and silver VR-SAR sleeper carriages, the “Club” car, conductors uniforms etc. That’s all gone, and you basically have a Victorian regional country service masquerading as a pseudo tourist...More

From memory, I think they were allocated by Overland staff/stewards. It pays to book as early as possible. Food and some drink was included in the premium ticket. I am not sure about the standard fare inclusions.

Not on the red premium ticket food and non alcoholic is inclued in the cost, and very good too.
