The Melbourne Cup is run on the first Tuesday in November. It's the greatest race on turf. The Cup is run over 3200 meters (2 miles). Stakes are $8 million. It's an international race, it's unusual for an Australian horse to win these days. Cup Day is a holiday in Melbourne, it's known as "the race that stops a nation." Makybe Diva is the only horse to win the race three times.

Flemngton Racecourse is one of Australia's top thoroughbred racetracks. The Melbourne Cup is run here on the first Tuesday in November. The roses always seem to flower bountifully on Cup Day. Everyone is dressed to impress, hats and fascinators are de rigeur for ladies. The Melbourne Cup is a top international race, run over 3200 metres (2 miles) at handicap. Winners are usually international entrants.

The Melbourne Cup, the height of Melbourne's social round, is held on the first Tuesday in November. The ladies will dress to impress, and producing hats and fascinators will keep the miliners busy for months. The Melbourne Cup is a handicap event, run over 3,200 metres (2 miles). Only those champions bred to stay will win. The Melbourne Cup is an international race, and it will draw a field from all over the world. By the way, Cup Day is a public holiday in Melbourne.

We arrived at Flemington on the P&O bus looking forward to a special experience at our first Melbourne Cup only to be kept waiting for almost an hour as the P&O enclosure was not open. The enclosure itself had no view of the racetrack and was overcrowded. Worst of all, it was set up for a spring day with umbrellas and a number of bench seats and cushions, despite days of warnings from the BoM of rain, storms and possible hail. Once the storms hit there was little effective shelter, and we were among a large number of people who decided to leave. We were then informed that there was only one P&O bus at 1pm and no others till 3.30pm. As we had no chance of getting on board the bus, we decided, as many others did, to try for a taxi or Uber. The road to our pickup area was flooded and cars could not enter, so we were forced to leave the racecourse in the driving rain and walk to an agreed pickup point. Many of us were elderly (we are in our 70s) and there was absolutely no duty of care shown by either Flemington Racecourse or P&O. A total waste of money and a very unpleasant experience.

We attended the 2022 Melbourne Cup in the P & 0 Enclosure and while the 6 days on Pacific Adventurer from Sydney were very enjoyable and a great way to get to Melbourne and have 3days in Melbourne with accomodation the actual day at Flemington Racecourse was a complete Rip Off.
We arrived at 9.30 am on coaches direct from the ship and found the P & ) enclosure was not opened until 10am so we took a stroll on the lawns for photos by the Winning Post and a walk around the betting ring and a photo by the Bart Cummings statue.
When we arrived at 10.10am there was nowhere to sit in the enclosure but this was solved at 11.01am when the heavens opened and we were huddled under the few Sq Umbrellas in the enclosure . I had about 10 beers at $57.50 each and my wife 5 glasses of wine at $115 each NOT Good Value

Ticked off bucket list but will never be back. Had general admission tickets. The most uncomfortable day left as soon as main race was run. To get food or drinks the wait was over an hour. Could not even get water and it was an extremely hot day. They obviously cannot cater for the large number they have attend so need to cap general admission tickets.

The Melbourne Cup, Australia's premier thoroughbred race, is held on the second Tuesday of every November at Flemington Racecourse. The race is run over 2 miles. Horses come from all over the world to compete. In 2023, Without a Fight, with jockey Mark Zahra aboard, won handily. To win, a horse must be bred to stay. The Flemington Racecourse is a true test of stamina.

The feature event for racing's Spring Carnival is the Melbourne Cup. The roses will be blooming and the champagne will be flowing. The race is over two miles (3200 metres). It is a handicap event. These days, it's an international race, it's rare that an Australian horse wins the race. There's a lot of prestige involved in carrying off the fabled Cup, it's regarded as the world's top two-mile race. Book early if you want to attend the race and dress in your best fashions. The Cup is on Tuesday 3 November 2020 at Flemington Racecourse. Cup Day is a public holiday in Melbourne. Australians all over the nation have a flutter on the Cup, just to be part of the celebration.

We are going down to the Cup next year 2020 with P & O I know general admission is include but we would like to have a seat with views of the trach, access to food, beverage and toilets. We have been looking at the various marquees and also reserved seating. It’s all getting a bit confusing I suppose as we haven’t been before. We’ve heard the Wiining Post whilst expensive is a fantastic spot.
Any suggestions people that might help us out.

Hi Colin,
P&O will release ticket upgrade options for the 2020 Melbourne Cup Carnival in April. We recommend contacting VRC Customer Service to discuss the ticket type options.
Kind regards,

The stands are definitely better if it rains, which it often does. You also get a better view of the track.

We are booked on a cruise to the Melbourne Cup 2019. We have general admission included in our cruise cost but would like to sit in a reserved area that we can see the races and be dry in case it rains. Wondering what Saintly Place would be like, can anyone who has actually sat in this area at the Melbourne Cup give me there opinion if it was worth the money.

We were at the 2018 Cup and booked a package which included tickets for the Hill Stand. Well worth doing as it poured with rain and we were able to sit in the dry and with brilliant views. It also gives you great access to uncrowded bars and food. BUT we couldn't book direct with Flemington, we had to book a package, so it may be pricy as you already have paid for admission tickets.

Hi, Esther. What would you like to know about this attraction? is this area wheelchair friendly as we are a party of 10 with 3 wheelchairs
Written 7 August 2018
Hello Esther, Flemington is pretty flat, so I can't see that you will have any problems. If you are going to the Members area they have lifts to the dining area's. Dean Lester a tipping expert here in Melbourne has been in a wheel chair for 25 years. He does not have a problem with Flemington. Happy punting. Good luck Glen W Melbourne Australia
