Elegant and beautifully maintained reading room. Easy access using trams or walking (at the top end of Swanston Street). The special exhibitions are hidden gems and change regularly. Amazing items of historical significance (eg. illuminated manuscripts and artworks) are often on display. Free and highly...More

Great old building. Lots of history of Melbourne and Victoria. Not too busy. My kids aged 12, 10 and 7 enjoyed it for the hour we were there.

A working library but also a book museum with many books on display which are hundreds of years old. Many famous authors and artists can be found.

Bit disappointed with the library contents, but the building inside is surely worth a peep. Located along swanston street it is very easy to find. Plus free entry is always nice.

Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways

even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air
