We loved our 2 night stay in the Grampians! We have hiked all over the world, including other parts of Australia, and although the scenery is not as dramatic as some mountain areas, we found these walks interesting, satisfying and well maintained. Some walks are over rocks (with helpful arrows painted on) so wear shoes with a good tread. We especially enjoyed the Pinnacle walk, the Grand Canyon, and MacKenzie Falls. These are all quite easy to do or "moderate" at most. There is lots of wildlife in the area, including "mobs" of kangaroos and all kinds of birds. Do go to the National Park Centre/ Aboriginal Cultural Centre to get your bearings and helpful tips. There are also Aboriginal rock-art sites nearby the Grampians for an interesting side trip. May was a great time to go as it was uncrowded and the weather was nice, crisp with a few showers but no big deal. People very mellow and helpful. All in all a lovely relaxing 3 days!!

Just took a quick tour of the Grampians National Park and it was fantastic. Definitely the best hiking I've ever done (but I'm not much of a hiker). The hike to the Pinnacle had some of the most interesting rock formations that I've seen.
If you're staying in Halls Gap (most travelers do), consider the Grampians Chalets (-)grampianschalets(-). We stayed there for only one night and were extremely happy with the accommodations. There are eight free standing wood octagonal chalets pleasantly furnished. Outside your chalet, kangaroo appear every evening. We loved it and the pictures on the website don't do it justice.

The Grampians in Western Victoria are a bit out of the way meaning they do not get the publicity and iconic status they deserve. Basically a long narrow valley with towering peaks on either side and the village of Hall's Gap at one end it turned out to be much more than I expected. McKenzie Falls on the way into the valley from the north were very impressive but also quite crowded with lots of coaches carrying tour and school groups. Apparently this is the most visited attraction in the Grampians and we didn't see these crowds anywhere else in the mountains. We camped at Halls Gap for 4 nights but could have stayed longer. One of the best features is the number of walks that start right from Halls Gap. Some are short and easy, others longer and steeper, and if you are lucky sometimes a loop. For the less energetic or those with children there are also car parks up the mountain making access to the main features like the Balconies and The Pinnacle with their amazing views and the stunning Grand Canyon readily accessible. There are signs of devastation from recent bushfires and a huge flood in 2011, but Vic Parks and local government have done an amazing job rebuilding trails and infrastructure and making most of the range accessible again. We visited in spring and saw lots of wildflowers, plenty of interesting birds and had close encounters with echidnas, wallabies and other native animals.

The staff was extremely rude.
They ask for credit card details over email, without secure payment site. They took my card details before telling me my booking was not successful. Had to cancel my card in fear of fraud.

My husband and I started our walk from Halls Gap to the Pinnacle. Opted for the longer route. Not suitable for the faint hearted. The views were fantastic let alone the rock formation on the way. On the way down we took the longer route to the Wonderland carpark. Explored the Canyon and more rock formations and a waterfall. Took us 5 hours to do the walk but it was thoroughly enjoyable.

You can start the Pinnacle walk from Halls Gap township, but my husband and I opted to take the short drive to Wonderland Carpark and start the walk from there, saving us about 2 hours walking total. Overall the walk is amazing. The 1st part goes through the Grand Canyon, with some stunning rock formations (although it does involve some rock-hopping). The middle part of the walk follows a well formed path and steps gradually uphill through bushland, whilst the last section, through "Silent Street", involves walking through an interesting narrow rocky canyon, and then up a rocky section to the absolutely stunning views at the Pinnacle. The walk is about 4km return and involves a consistent uphill climb on the way up, with some rockhopping involved. We saw quite a few children quite comfortably completing the walk, although you would need to keep a close eye on them at the summit! I would imagine the rocks could get quite slippery during or after rain. Overall a stunning walk, with the sublime views and interesting rock formations well worth the effort. Highly recommended.

We stayed in the Grampians for 10 days, we managed to do all of the available walks, some were easy & others were a little strenuous but the views at the top were definitely worth it.

I always feel close to nature when I am in Halls Gap. I am not a camping person but like to visit National Parks and reserves when I have time. We were there with some relatives who were visiting from overseas.
It was a memorable trip which included watching the native fauna in their natural habitat outside a zoo. Would have been better if the temperature lower than the 42 degrees on the day, but hey, that's nature; you cannot control it.
A visit to the grampians is not complete whitout visiting McKenzie Falls, Lake Wartook, the Pinnacles and the balconies.
A must visit for anyone who likes nature, walks and driving.

Heading South at the bottom of the Grampian, we came to the town of Penshurst. We came to also to see a local crater, just a few kilometers away at Mt Rous. We trudged up the 125 steps, (not that I’m counting). We could see towards Warnambool, Hamilton and the Grampians. We descended the 125 steps, and stopped at the huge volcano crater. The to see the ‘volcano exhibition’ which included a 20 minute movie on the action at the 2010 Iceland Volcano. It showed how they stopped the volcano cutting off their working village from the sea, which was their livelihood. The whole exhibition was so interesting. There were all types of rock also there; explaining the differences and volcanic variations, like the holes in rocks which had been actually gas bubbles in the rocks, as they are being exploded from the volcano the gas was released. There was a section where you could feel the different textures of the rock. It was a very educational exhibition.
