The Theatre Royal opened in 1837, with major additions in 1850 and 1890, and remains a living centre for the performing arts. It presents live theatre, contemporary music, dance and entertainment. Dubbed by Noel Coward "a dream of a theatre", the Theatre Royal is Australia's oldest working theatre and one of its most beautiful treasures.

I came, I saw, I quoted Shakespeare on the stage of the oldest and most important and most beautiful theatre in Australia. The tour is superb, thanks Pip. Not to be missed. Enchanting.

We saw the Cat Stevens show here and loved. If you get a chance to see a show at this venue you should take it.

Fantastic theatre, amazing decor. I prefer the dress circle front row if I can get it. If not go the third row (it has a better view than the 2nd row).

The nose bleeds are tight and uncomfortable....much better experience downstairs. I have been several times over the years but this was my first foray in the upper tier. Went to see Toni Childs who was perhaps more disappointing than the seats.

Yes, as you can see from the previous comment, we are very proud that Vivien Leigh performed here in 'The School for Scandal' with the Old Vic Company in 1948.
