About
Step inside Australia's oldest operating brewery, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Wellington, to learn how Cascade has been crafting beer since 1832. Our guides will share Cascade's fabled recipe; a dash of history, a healthy dose of Tasmania's finest ingredients and a generous serve of brewing craft. You can take a tour or just relax and enjoy Cascade beers and Mercury ciders, savour a delicious lunch and wander our three acres of heritage gardens.

- Karen MontenAdelaide, Australia2 contributionsMust do..This tour was fantastic. The guide , I think his name was Brodan, was informative, funny and easy to listen to. Very good value, especially with the beer paddle tasting afterwards. Would recommend for tourists and locals alike.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 2 April 2023
- danjowettSydney, Australia2 contributionsBeerA beautiful part of Hobart and a really interesting history tour, as well as a fantastic experience for those enjoy beer. The tour takes you into the old brewery which is still the working brewery today. Our tour guide was absolutely fantastic as he had a huge appreciation of the significance and importance of the brewery to the city for over 100 years. Recommend it.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 April 2023
- Marina SPerth, Australia19 contributionsIt is all beer and skittlesA very interesting and informative tour. The tasting paddle is worth the money alone! Even though I'm not a huge beer fan, I still found the history and brewing process fun to learn about. The grounds of Cascade are beautiful too. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours in Hobart.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 April 2023
- SWat29 contributionsMust see!Our tour was run by a Scottish lass who was friendly and very knowledgeable. She took us around and into the guts of the brewery and told us both history stories and also current brewing stories, it was fantastic! Definitely worth checking out the bar after too as they will have drinks on tap that aren't sold anywhere elseVisited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2023
- Niki M2 contributionsA must when you’re in Hobart! We had such a great experience! Our tour guide Robin was informative & made us comfortable during the tour as my husband has MS and was a bit slower, but this was no problem for Robin and the group. Thanks for your patience. Be sure to book into the cafe. The food, service and of course beers are fantastic!Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 June 2023
- Stay7393763 contributionsFactory tour and drinksA spur of the moment stop on our travels found us at Cascade. Mainly for food and drink on way home but we were lucky to take the factory tour lead by Amelia. She was informed, fun and made the tour interesting with bits of uncommon history as well as factory facts. It was a great tour and the tasting paddle after just finished the afternoon off nicely. Definitely a must do againVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023
- Murray D5 contributionsDefinitely a MUST!!!!This tour is a definite must when visiting the brewery. The staff have so much knowledge and are so passionate about their workplace. So many things I had no idea about. Not to mention the amazing buildings (both cafe/bar/brewery) and the absolutely beautiful gardens and walks. This is an amazingly beautiful area to visit, relax in and tour. Definitely 5 out of 5 stars for location, staff, taste and atmosphereVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 July 2023

Took my husband on this tour. I don’t drink beer myself however found the tour very interesting, informative and engaging. Guide very friendly and knowledgeable. Went on a Sunday which meant we could linger in certain areas. Really enjoyable and worth getting there.

Small tour and we'll presented. Great tastings at the end with some yummy nibbles though you need to pay for the food which is expected.

We did the Historical Tour as my wife was driving. Amelia was very knowledgeable and told us the history of the Cascades brewery but also pointed out interesting features that we would have otherwise missed. Did not get to go inside but did not feel we missed out. Enjoyed our own quiet 'tasting' in the bar afterwards. Recommend you try the beers you cannot get elsewhere. I enjoyed the stout. A pleasant afternoon. Recommend you book ahead especially the brewery tour, so you do not miss out. It was busy even midweek outside of school holidays.

A very informative tour about the process of beer making that dates back more than 100 years. Also enjoyed the beer tasting with all being very good. Since you can’t get anything but their light beer outside of Tasmania, drink up while in Tasmania!

Booked the Cascade Historical tour when in Hobart for a day off our cruise ship and it was a great experience!
Our tour guide Tilly took us on a historical walk around the brewery and gardens and shared her immense knowledge of Hobart’s history (not just the brewery). There is nothing Tilly doesn’t know about Peter Degraves and his family and she was happy to answer and questions any questions we had about the tour or Hobart in general.
If you are visiting Hobart for the day on a cruise this tour was a great way to spend some time. Uber/taxi from port was $15 and tour $20. There is also a restaurant where you could enjoy lunch as well as beer and whiskey tasting.
Highly recommended and hope you get as lucky as we’re were to have Tilly as your tour guide!

Tour was fabulous, our guide Broden, so passionate about his work, really made the tour great. We learnt alot and enjoyed our tasting at end.
Would have like a bigger range of snack food to purchase with the tasting.

What is the difference between the brewery tour on the weekend and the historical tour during the week? Is one better than the other?
The history tour won't enter the brewery but invites you to explore the surroundings and learn more about our rich heritage.
Is it worth doing both the brewery tour and the beer school? Or just one or the other?

If you have the time do both, if not just the brewery tour and stay for a meal, good prices excellent value.

If we join the brewery tour, will we be allowed to use the 4 drink tokens while we have lunch there? Or do we have to drink them all in the tasting room? Thanks

It would be no problem to use the tokens with lunch as it is basically all the same area. It is a very nice space looking out onto the stunning gardens so I am sure you will enjoy it!
