I didn't know this place existed until I saw it mentioned on Who Do You Think You are recently, even though I have been travelling to Tasmania over many years tracing my family convict history. What a shame the Government didn't preserve more of this...More

This site and tour was amazing and demonstrated the institutional brutality of the era. The treatment of the children born within this walls was a shameful period in our colonial past.

Brings home how people in high places can get what they want. Like more men and women in Van Diemans Land. You are escorted through the establishment by very well versed and knowledgeable guides. The ninety minute tour seems to fly by. Certainly helps you...More

Hi dbcotsell, I'm sorry for your experience with us. It has been a recent decision for us to close on a Monday in May/June, which is in part due to volunteer availability across the winter and you have unfortunately caught us in a transitional period....More

Judy brought to life the stories, history and atrocities that took place in this period of our history and standing in the actual spots where so many of our ancestors spent years of their lives in unimaginable conditions was truly revealing. My 4xGGrandfather arrived here...More
