    A fun afternoon
2 flights of whiskey with complementary chocolate and a liquor. Very nice. Great atmosphere the in this little bar . Feels like it’s somewhere you could settle in for a long time (if you had a lot of money). Prices are fair but whiskey isn’t cheap so bring your wallet.

    Cocktails, cocktails and more cocktails
We visited the whiskey bar several times during our visit after discovering the $10 cocktail specials. Not being overly experienced cocktail drinkers we loved the ability to work our way through the whiskey themed cocktails. The manager of the bar was attentive and friendly and was happy to have a chat about her favourite cocktails. The interior of the bar is very cosy and has unique decor elements in the main bar (and some great philosophy in the toilets). The pace is relaxed and this quickly became one of our favourite places in Hobart.

    Great cocktails in Hobart
Great spot and cocktails, an intimate space in laneway off Salamanca. Early visit after 4 pm $10:cocktails, mostly whiskey based, a friendly and helpful bar tender. Visited two nights.

Salamanca Whisky Bar : best place to sit and sip.
Absolute must. Sit back in the beautiful abeyance, music softly playing while sipping on your cocktail. My cocktail of choice is the French Toast Martini. Great atmosphere, staff are very friendly and very knowledgeable of the drinks they serve. Excellent experience. This is my go to, just for a relax or just for a nice place to sit and sip.

    False advertising…
We saw the sign, $10 cocktails, so we thought we’d give it a try and we were very surprised it was the full cocktail list but happy to order. The place was lovely, a bit of a mixed bag in regard to styling but nice. The lady took our order and the cocktails were great: we went to order another round, and told the $10 off was no longer. Don’t get me wrong the cocktails are reasonably priced, but felt there is no timeframe on the special offer price and they seem to just use that when the place is empty, you have no idea when sitting inside. I questioned this and the lady advised that people just know, well tourists don’t know. In our time in the place the lady rejected a couple wanted to have a 60th in the venue, another guy who didn’t seem to fit. Seems like she is opinionated.

Great spot for a cheeky cocktail & chocolate cake
I must admit we were a little nervous about this spot, having read some less than complimentary reviews Popped in mid afternoon on Friday to be met by a very helpful young man who took time to explain the menu and confirm the $10 half price cocktails. We shared a chocolate cake which was simply divine - massive serve, great taste. We each had a cocktail - mine was the relatively simple ‘Penicillin’ (whisky, ginger honey), Trish’s was a ‘Mexican Mud Slide’ which was a behemoth of chocolate, whisky, ice cream and simply amazing All up $34 for two cocktails and a massive chocolate cake. The lady behind bar was flat out making cocktails and I imagine this place can get busy with poorly behaved customers, who may test their patience. I think the staff are doing a great job and would recommend this place. Looking forward to being back Great decor also!

    A Must in Hobart!
We had the best whisky cocktails and meat and cheese platter we have ever had anywhere. Great vibe and lovely staff. The cakes looked amazing as well. Highly recommend and we will be back, thanks to Liz for the heads up on this one!!

The atmosphere of this bar is incredible, candlelight, fresh white lilies, plush sofas, glass display cabinets of decadent chocolate cakes, an extensive drinks menu to suit all tastes and table service. We dropped in for a quick nightcap after dinner on our first night in Hobart and enjoyed a delicious cocktail each. The service was excellent. I am still thinking about the French Toast Martini... Highly, highly recommend.

If you like classy bars and amazing cocktails and drinks choices this is a must in Hobart. It was recommended by a friend and it is fantastic. The service is fantastic, the ambiance and bar itself is amazing. If you like whisky there are so many you cannot believe and the staff are knowledgable. The cocktails are $20 but are well superior to any pub or bar I have been to, think 5 star hotel quality in a normal bar. Would definitely say dont leave Hobart without a visit. We will be back.

Paying for the experience of whiskey at its best , pity there is no wi-fi , beautiful premises , one of two male staff members needs to brush up or acquire better people skills .
Our first experience was exceptionally pleasing with the lady paying attention to every detail . Will not be back after 4 pm staff change over

Beautifully decorated and with a really extensive range of whiskies, the Whiskey Bar is a must do if you’re in Hobart, specifically Salamanca. We indulged in two different ‘flights’ of whiskey, that is a selection of three different whiskies from one particular distillery. The chap who served us was full of knowledge about his products and recommended two different distillers. We look forward to returning when we are in Salamanca next.

Beautiful atmosphere and luscious cocktails. Shame about the service. I have never witnessed such rudeness and snobbery from Waiting staff. Not listening to customers.”have you finished?” “No” waiter takes drink away. We were a big group and were told that we could literally not move the chairs to sit more comfortably around the space that we were occupying. Another one of our party was told to sit down and drink and not allowed to stand. I was overcharged ( so I. Realised when we got home) It was ‘faulty towers’ by people who took themselves so seriously we were aghast as a group. I have been before and nearly wrote a bad review after my Melbourne friend was rudely told that there weren’t any mock tails available. I was embarrassed because I had bought them there for old fashioned Tasmanian service. I have never been treated with such incredible snobbery in any venue. Ever. We were a big group , bringing in good money for them and made to feel like pariahs because we wanted to move 2 chairs! Many of us were singularly unimpressed.

How do you rate this place? On one hand an awesome venue nestled in the heart of the Salamanca square, serving up an extensive array of whisky based cocktails at only $10 a pop (half price specials with a weird lack of guidelines around when said half price finishes up). On the other hand some strange policies such as the often mentioned one in these reviews; the dreaded one spoon policy. With a wonderful range of delicious and massive cake slices, if you ask for an extra spoon so you can share within your group you get a rather Soup Nazi style response. Not far away from a "one spoon for you"! As the whisky was the main reason I was there I'll just dock 1 star for the strange spoon policy and subsequent dismissive nature of the staff member whom we asked for an extra spoon.

The Cocktail’s are just okay if you like a glass completely filled with ice, if they were any more than $10 you wouldn’t bother.

Their one spoon policy is a joke & their customer service is not much better. They serve huge slices of cake which are reflected by the price, basically double the cost of what you would normally pay elsewhere. The catch is they will only give you one spoon, so a couple wanting to share has to use the same spoon.

We travel a lot & carry a set of our own cutlery with us so we used our own spoon. Well when the staff noticed we had a second spoon all hell broke loose resulting in us being kicked out & then banned for life. So to cut a long story short, if I could give a zero rating I would!!!

$10 whiskey cocktails on a Friday afternoon were great after a day at Mona. Red velvet cake was pretty good too but they have a bizarre policy of not providing two spoons to allow sharing of cakes. We were aware of this so took our own additional cutlery. Quite funny really. Certainly not a Covid related policy as they served the couple next to
us a bowl of nuts so presumably a money grab to try an illicit a second order.

I read all the bad reviews but I like to try experiences for myself.

I can't put my finger on the atmosphere, I can only describe it as dark and fearful of that middle-aged waitress.

We went on Sunday for the first time, our experience lasted all of 5 minutes. The middle-aged waitress abruptly dropped the menu on the table, tapped on it a couple of times, no communication, had EFTPOS machine in hand so I thought she was ready to take our order, so I asked for drinks. With attitude she said 'I'm serving someone else, they were here before you, you will have to wait and be patient'. Lady, that is not my job to know who you have served and who you haven’t served. Communicate with me politley and don't scold me. This is why we left and would never go back.

Amazing quaint bar - warm comfortable atmosphere with wonderful friendly staff. Recommend the death by chocolate menu (especially when they are running their half price specials!!). Our waitress Helen was amazing - lots of tips around local spots to visit & made us feel so welcome. Such a genuinely lovely person - so very familiar & fun.
