    Busing is better than driving
May i suggest in the strongest terms possible, do NOT attempt to drive up and back. The road is not much bigger than an average single lane road and there are buses driving up and down all the time, making private driving a nightmare. There are several bus tours that take about 1 1/2 hours including more than enough time to walk around the observation deck and several of the nearby pathways. We took the "Mount Wellington Explorer" which has a seniors discount, great commentary and also operates to Hobart "Hop On Hop Off" which is also a MUST DO.

    Great views
The views from Mount Wellington are amazing, highly recommend. We were fortunate to have a lovely clear day and were able to wander around and see the views in all directions. Must see the ultimate Loo with a View. The road up is narrow, steep, winding and 2 way traffic, including buses, so it’s a bit hairy.

A must visit when in Hobart
We had a hire car and drove to the top. It doesn't take too long from the centre of Hobart and is well worth the visit. If you don't have your own transport, there are bus tours that will take you up as well. It's a lot cooler up the top of the mountain sod make sure you are prepared for changing weather. We were there in April and whilst it was 18 degrees in Hobart, there was some snow/sleet at the top. Some good walking trails and a few short loops less than 200 metres to view from the top. This is in my opinion, a must visit. It's great to view the alpine scenery as well as the city of Hobart from up high.

A must to do when visiting Hobart
Six of us went on the bus to view Mount Wellington. The driver made this trip! He was very informative and we loved his sense of humour. The view from the top was amazing, cold but amazing! Would definitely recommend this experience.

    Incredible views
We were really lucky with the weather, it was hot and sunny even at the summit. The views were amazing and well worth the trip. We drove up, I was expecting a tricky mountain road, but it was well paved and a relatively easy drive to the top.

View from the top of the world
It was a fine day and we did the drive to the top of Mt Wellington. If you’re driving your attention is on the winding road, but if you’re a passenger the view down onto Hobart and surrounds from the winding roads is something else. Nice at the top clambering around the rocks to see different views. Amazingly we passed a guy on a cycle bike on the way up and he flew passed us at the top. Not my thing but if you’re a super athlete it would be something you can be proud of. While staying in Hobart it snowed over night and the mountain was covered in snow the next morning. Not sure if the roads would become icy in such conditions, something to consider if you’re here in autumn/winter. But nice drive, terrific view of the area from the top.

    A clear day
We did a tour and were blessed with great weather, we could see clear views in every direction. We walked all over and around the mountain. It's truly a beautiful and rugged landscape. Our guide knew lots about the area and drove well too. Definitely worth seeing. Loved it.

Great views but prepare for the cold.
Great views, but be prepared for very strong winds and the cold. Make sure you dress appropriately (I'd take winter gloves and hat) and walking shoes to climb to the very top of the rocks. We got the explorer bus as it was very efficient and a lot cheaper than the hop on and off bus. I don't think you could walk up it. They also informed us of the different walks you could do and dropped us off at the beginning of the walks and told us where to go and what time and where we could be picked up. We went on the short walk to the waterfall which was lovely, but not much of a waterfall (I've attached photos). Our driver was lovely and knowledgeable, it was a great ride up and down. I would recommend it if you are in the area.

    Great views.
A visit to Hobart is never complete without a visit to the top of Mount Wellington. Be prepared with warm clothes. It can be lovely weather in the city, but by the time you get to the top of the mountain it can be very cold and very windy - sometimes even snowing. There is a great indoor viewing platform to take in the view. There are numerous walks you can do - several are outlined on a board at The Springs. Be sure to take a photo of the trail map because it is easy to get lost and the weather can change abruptly.

    Wonderful tour.
It was a wonderful tour the captain was highly experienced and very cooperative. He guided us to enjoy best of the tour. One thing please don’t trust weather report. While traveling there carry good warm cloths and cap. It’s highly windy and cold up there

What an absolutely stunning view. A must to visit while in Hobart. The drive up to the top has beautiful landscape and the views are spectacular. Also a bonus is the little coffee shop half way down.

If you hate heights or not the best driver don’t do this
Beautiful views but scary trip, motorbikes constantly overtaking and rental cars speeding and then not giving much room and honking

A wonderful and safe drive to the top of Mount Wellington, and down again.
A beautiful road, excellent scenery, sufficient parking at the top, but very few parking bays on the way up / down.
Some short but good paths around the top, and wonderful viewpoints.
But it can be very windy at the top.

Spectacular views. The drive up is amazing, don’t speed! Gets quite busy towards midday so try go earlier. Obviously try and pick a clear day.

my husband and I visited Mt Wellington in a day tour. What a spectacular sight from up there, the view is beautiful. Beware to take warm clothes as they say the temperature is always a lot colder up there and the day we went was very much on the windy side so we definitely felt it. The rock formations that have been pushed up out of the ground are really something to see. Worth a look

The panoramic view on a clear day is utterly beautiful! Temperature does drop at the top, so best to wear layers and a head covering as it can be quite windy. Well worth the twisty, narrow road drive. This is definitely a must do

Great panoramic views over Hobart. Pleasant mountain drive that requires care. Super windy on top so take your puffer jacket.

Delicious and well presented restaurant. Service was quick. Enjoyed the vegetables with crispy tofu and my partner enjoyed the beef brisket hot pot. Would go again.

We were in Hobart for 3 days and sadly the summit of Mt Wellington was under cloud for all days. We did try one day to go up but it a complete white out and this was in the middle of Summer. We did get a bit of a view from about 2/3’s of the way up which was impressive but didn’t get the full view that you see in the photos.
