Awesome tour with Kelly
Sep 2021 • Family
We met lovely Kelly who was our tour guide for Fay's House. Kelly was welcoming and friendly and super informative about the history of the house and Fay's personal story. She also shared many interesting stories about the history of the town and how mining developed over the years. The primarly hand dug out is very impressive, cosy and interesting. Absolutely worth a visit and make sure to say Hi to Kelly 😊👍

Quirky and interesting

Great time capsule back to the 70s to see how Faye's Underground Home was built. Tour was most informative. Highly recommended.

Excellent idea of life in the 1950’s & the tenacity of a determined woman in a predominantly mans world

Amazing what a few women can do

Had a bit of difficulty when first got here as no one seemed to be around. Came back a bit later to be met by Grant who showed us around and explained the history etc. he did this very professionally. Well worth a visit.

A real lived in home with a great back story. Our guide did not live there but had all the details and obviously passionate about Faye's story. Thanks for allowing our dog too.

A Rude Experience
May 2021
We loved our visit to Cooper Pedy except for Fays Underground Home visit .

Having read on TripAdvisor Fays Underground Home was a must visit we stayed an extra night to take in Fays Underground home the next morning.
We arrived there on Monday morning 24 May and were greeted by a girl who told us there was no tours available, you can wander around and she was not paid enough to answer questions. If you want to ask a question it would be an extra $5 a question and stupid questions $10. How rude and unwelcoming can this be?

After wandering around the house my son asked when did Fay die?. Our rude caretaker demand $10 for what she called a dumb question

On leaving we told a family of 5 in the carpark not to bother coming in.

Great tour about a great woman way beyond her years and a great tour of her mine - must do
May 2021 • Couples
This was so great to see a woman way beyond her years accomplish so much loved the story and Grant (host) was so passionate about the story of Faye - we also included the mine tour and loved it our guide has lived in CB all her life and she is also passionate about the mine tour and has a lovely sense of humour - we actually didn’t bother to go through all the others mine sites as they would all be the same but just with things they want to see you - this one was just about coober pedy, one fabulous woman and the way the mining of opals works - a must do 10/10

Interesting
May 2021
While we enjoyed the visit to Fay’s Underground Home, it was spoilt by Amanda who had a very negative attitude and was not at all welcoming. She said she wasn’t prepared to answer any questions. There was no reduction in a price for not being able to have a guided tour. The owners had an appointment so we’re unable to be there, The house was interesting with the rooms all furnished but we suggest the owners close for the day when they are unable to be there.

Great Experience
May 2021 • Couples
This is a must see if visiting Coober Pedy. Faye Nayler is famous for digging her underground home by hand with a little help from two female friends. They used only picks, shovels and wheel barrows to excavate the plot back in the early 1960s. The guided tour is inexpensive and well worth the experience of being shown through the various rooms and hearing the stories of her amazing life and achievements in such a harsh and male dominated place. Car parming is available on site.
