Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Jon Brian was so much fun! He is very knowledgeable about Sydney history and puts his background as a history/geography teacher to good use. We stopped at a local coffee shop along the way and enjoyed the best carrot cake I've ever had. We enjoyed ourselves. Don't hesitate to book this tour. You will not be sorry. Thank you, Jon, for a fantastic time.

On the last day of our 28 day tour of 6 states & 1 territory we had an incredible experience with Jon Brian from “My Detour Australia”. Over our travels we had learned a lot about Australia, the Indigenous, the geography, & the early explorers & settlements here but Jon was able to bring more life to these stories and give us the overview we were seeking.
He kept us entertained as well with his quips, wit , Aussie slang, and trivia as well as his deep knowledge of history and passionate love of this amazing continent.
He truly made us think of planning our next trip to see the things we missed.
We would highly recommend this tour with Jon.

I highly recommend this tour and our local tour guide, Jon Brian. Jon took us around Sydney to see some of the tourist spots such as the bridge and Bondi beach but most of our tour was seeing hidden gems or viewing tourist sites from advantage points you would never find without local insight. Jon was informative, funny, and just plain fun to be with. We had mid morning coffee and lunch at Icebergs overlooking Bondi beach for a relaxing mid tour break included in the cost of the tour.

We had so much fun with Jon Brian and the 1964 Holden! Not only did we drive to some of the most beautiful parts of Sydney, we also took a stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens to the Conservatorium of Music! Had a terrific lunch in a beautiful park near where sea plane tours depart, also learned a lot of history, trivia and shared mutual interests like music, movies and other interests. It's like when a friend takes you around their city. A great day excursion!

Jon Brian was an excellent tour guide, providing very detailed historical, as well as current information about Sydney. He was entertaining, funny, and an excellent driver! We thoroughly enjoyed our day in Sydney, with many delightful surprises sprinkled in throughout the day! The Classic Holden made the tour all that more enjoyable as people everywhere looked on and my husband is a car enthusiast! No subject was off the table! We can say to anyone coming for a visit - this is a MUST DO tour!! I'd even recommend it to locals!!

Not enough marvelous things to say about the extensive and entertaining knowledge contained in the redoubtable John Brian..who drove the ancient Holden Premier through the back streets and shared the fascinating and often forgotten history of Australia’s largest city.
We now know much more about what makes this metropolis ‘down under’ such a unique place.
From the world class surfing beaches to an archeological dig beneath a new office development hidden from the standard herd of tourists, John knows copious fascinating facts and is willing to share however much of them you prefer.
Have him tell you the backstory of the small island fort in Sydney harbor...or to recite lines from an 18th century poem that predicted the famous ‘coat hanger’ bridge.
Local onlookers constantly referred to the car fondly as one their dads had driven...priceless.
His cheerful patter was so far superior to the standard bored bus driver drone...it was a refreshing and enjoyable experience...and one I would certainly recommend.

When we met Richard and he showed us his 1964 Holden we would be riding in for the tour, my husband was thrilled. He is a car enthusiast and this was just perfect for us. Richard did a wonderful job combining history with the tour of current day Sydney. We would highly recommend this company.

Richard and his 1964 Holden was an experience like no other in Sydney. My husband is an old car enthusiast and this was the perfect way to spend a day touring Sydney and the surrounding areas. Richard was knowledgeable in the history of Sydney and did a wonderful job incorporating history into what we were seeing current day.
We highly recommend this tour!

Our guide was Jon Brian who was informative, entertaining, amusing, engaging - what more do you want. We toured the city learning its history, its uniqueness, it's economics and industry. We spent a respectable amount of time discussing the aboriginal history both before and after 1788.
Haven't met any of the other guides but can give Jon our highest recommendation.

We had the best tour of Sydney that we could have ever hoped for. We drove around in his 1964 Holden, stopped at various "out of the way" spots to discover the beauty of Sydney and Richard was very knowledgeable about the history.
