Lovely place. Plenty of military insignia to see on the walls. Some trivia for non-Australians like me: this church appeared in the movie Mission Impossible 2, in the religious parade scene. (Other Sydney landmarks, too, including the Bradleys Head Amphitheatre - check out that view!)

Tucked around a corner up the hil and through the tunnel from the Rocks tourist area on the corner of Lower Fort St and Argyle St is an early Anglican church finished in 1840. If you are into historic churches it's an easy walk.

The church is the first military church of Sydney. It has interesting military memorabilia, The east window and the pulpit are quite nice. It is at the rocks. It is close to the observatory. It is easy to find and located at a quiet neighbourhood....More

Garrison Church is one of the oldest religious venues in Sydney. It is a nice place to explore Australia's often dark history.

Just up from Argyle stairs, this is a simple church. It used to be used for soldiers but now it is a nice old Anglican parish church. Pretty understated as churches go, no-one was there the day I visited. It was nice, open, serene. Not...More

From the outside this delightful sandstone church is almost understated in architecture and is set in a very beautiful old part of Sydney. The Rocks and Sydney Observatory are very close by. I recommended the length of stay in the box below as under 1...More

This ancient (in Australian standards) Anglican church, now merged to St Philip's church in 2013 to form a joint parish. The original purpose of building Garrison church was, to relieve St Philip's because it was too small already to accommodate the growing number of soldiers....More

Besides the stunning old building, this Anglican Church has much history from early Sydney settlement, being the church the soldiers garrison nearby attended each Sunday. Today the services are of the modern Anglican style, delivered by a lovely, friendly minister in Craig Tubman, where sermons...More

I was walking around The Rocks this morning and came across this church which was open. Lovely architecture and an impressive internal structure albeit a simple one. Worth a visit for some quiet reflection when the church is not in use.

It's a beautiful historic Church in the old centre of town. Worth a quick drop by if in the area but don't go out of your way.
