    WOW experience was just WOW
Keeper Abbie was amazing. She spent the day with me, meeting and feeding lions, tigers, bears, giraffes, the list goes on. Doing the cheetah experience was a bucket list item. Surprise of the day was Arataki the sun bear and hiding his morning feed and then watching him locate and eat it. So many memories. If you are thinking of doing, my advice … just do it.

Had a great time with a knowledgeable tour guide and fantastic interactions with WAAAAY more animal than I had hoped for. Would definitely recommend for all animal lovers, and can't wait til I can do it again. So grateful for the opportunity.

Good zoo, if that's what floats your boat.
Canberra zoo is a well appointed zoo, if you are into them. The enclosures are well maintained with plenty or room for the animals. Nice easy walk round the park with the rhino cafe at the opposite end to the entrance. This is the cafe with the hot Tucker. If you like zoo's and want to kill a couple of hours give this place a look.

    WOW Tour is fantastic!
I did the Wonders of Wildlife Tour and it was EXCELLENT! I got to visit so many different animals, it was incredible. I fed otters, a tree kangaroo, lions, tigers, giraffe, zebra, sun bears, lemurs, and so many others. I held a snake and even got to pat a cheetah! Morning tea and lunch was included (although no vegan options for morning tea - although I did have a delicious coffee). The keeper/guide I was with was so friendly and knowledgable, and took lots of photos while I was busy with the animals. Definitely worth the money!

    Great outdoor activity in Canberra
I took 2x teenagers and we had a great time. The weather was lovely, they had plenty of phone data and lots of shady places to rest. We ripped through it pretty quickly, as teens get bored easily, but loved the rhinos, tigers, aquarium, cheetahs. Also loved the large enclosures and the well kept grounds. It was busy, but the zoo didn’t feel busy.

    Wonders of wildlife
This was a highlight of my life! Fantastic experience with an outstanding zoo keeper (Brendan) that had amazing knowledge on all of the animals. Zoo is wonderful and the animals treated like royalty. They eat better than most. Something I won't forget. Small group meant we saw so much more and were able to learn far more than I thought we would. Amazing experience!!

    Family WOW Tour
The tour exceeded all my expectations. Whilst I have done a number of animal encounters previously this tour was special. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and ensured we had the best experience. I highly recommend the experience to any animal lover.

An amazing day. Being able to be up close and personal with the animals was a real treat. The guide was great, and his knowledge of the animals was exceptional. He even knew most of the animal's names. We had a lovely morning tea and lunch included which was a bonus.

National Zoo and Aquarium Wonders of Wildlife Experience - Canberra Australia
We really loved this experience. Our guide (John) was friendly, engaging, and fun to listen to. He was knowledgeable about the animals and we learned a lot. We loved interacting with all the animals. We were able to hand-feed a large variety of animals including giraffes, otters, roughed lemur, pygmy marmoset, emu, and meerkats. We were able to pet a cheetah and a rhino. We fed larger animals through cages/plexiglass (lion, tiger, hyena). We loved that the pygmy marmosets sat on our shoulders while we fed them and how social the lemurs were. We also really enjoyed hiding food for the sun bear. If you love animals, this is such a great experience. They also provide lunch and mid-morning tea/snack.

    A wonderful day
I recently bought a Wonders of Wildlife tour for my wife which gave her an entire day behind the scenes at the National Zoo & Aquarium. It was a truly wonderful experience as she went behind the scenes to see how the Zoo operates and view at close range the behaviour of so many animals. She was able to feed many of them and learn about their habits and history. She learned about the many efforts the National Zoo & Aquarium is making to not only provide an active and healthy environment for the animals but their involvement in animal conservation programs around the world. We highly recommend the Zoo and this tour for anyone.

My husband and I recently attended the zoo, and honestly found the whole experience rather disappointing. We’re members of our local zoo, and stop by the zoo and/or aquarium of any place we visit that has one.

The first thing that we had difficulty with was accessing the zoo. There’s no public transport, and no option to get a shuttle bus from the city (we would have paid for this). Instead we took a taxi, and because we walked in the front gate, our first experience of the zoo was being told that “we couldn’t park there” because it was reserved for hotel guests. We understand reserved parking, but also we don’t have a car, and hadn’t parked anywhere. It was off-putting as a start to the visit.

The entry fee was higher than that of other Australian zoos (such as Taronga or Melbourne), both of which are larger, and also have an aquarium section of similar size, so we’re not sure what justified the extra $10 cost. It feels like because it’s hard to get to and is so expensive, they can’t get people in the door and have to up the prices.

While walking around the zoo we saw more signs telling us to either purchase an additional tour, stay in the hotel, or that we were being surveilled than we saw signs with information about the animals.

The things that we did want to spend money on (food, and at the gift shop) were lacking. The food was very limited, and if you do go, I’d suggest bringing your own picnic. They have plenty of facilities available for this, which may explain why the food for purchase was very limited, and far apart (one at each entrance). The gift shop range was small and generalised, and the signs telling you that you were under surveillance every metre made the experience off-putting. It was hard to browse and relax when you felt like you were in a prison or an airport.

We went on a weekday, which may have been why there were less staff, but the only keepers we saw were leading tours. At one point a peacock got into the penguin nest boxes, and seemed to be causing them a great deal of distress. They couldn't get out of the door to get away from it. We spent 15 minutes trying to find and inform a staff member, but eventually gave up and hoped it would sort itself out.

If you’re willing to spend a lot of money on the experiences (hotel, tours) and have a car, you might have a better time than we did. Otherwise, save yourself $35 and try the reptile zoo in Gold Creek, there are less animals but you can talk to people about them and it seems to be passion, rather than profit driven.

Anyone thinking of doing the night zoo adventure, don’t hesitate! We had the best night. Staff were all amazing and so knowledgeable you can tell how passionate they all are, it’s quiet, you get a very personal tour with your guide. The animals were very interactive on our tour. Will definitely go again and can’t stop raving about how good it was. So much better than walking around yourself. Love love loved it!!

We met John and Angela who were our guides for the day. John has worked at the Zoo for around 6 years and is tremendously experienced. He was informed and engaging throughout the entire day. Angela was “learning the ropes” but an interesting guide to discuss aspects of our day with and also informed (Apologies for any hard questions Angela). We arrived at 7.45am and after intros we were on our way.

Our highlights were without doubt meeting and feeding the Lemurs, tree kangaroos and other small monkeys and Otters who were very engaging.
Meeting and feeding the Giraffes was also a highlight for us having seen the majestic animals in the wild. The animals are so gentle and, yes polite when it comes to feeding it was such a joy and well worth the investment.

What should have been a highlight was getting up close to one of the Cheetahs, the one we meet was called Solo (I think). We are thoughtful visitors and follow instruction well I hope, but the experience with meeting Solo was a low point thanks to the Keeper. We felt that the experience was so “sanitised” it lost its impact. The handler was very detached from us rather than inclusive and we had to push the conversation for her to engage. We understand the significance of these contacts which is why we paid for the privilege.

I don’t want the latter comment to over shadow the tour or detract anyone from engaging in the activity. But this bit needs to be fed back to the owners as it is promoted as a highlight of the day. BTW John and Angela were not involved in this part of the encounter.

Thank you John and Angela for such good company and informative and engaging day.

This was the best experience we have ever had. Taylor our guide went above and beyond and was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. To be able to touch some of these amazing animals was something we will treasure forever. And knowing some of the money we spent on this experience goes back to helping these beautiful animals makes me happy also. We will definitely do this again.

We did the WoW experience, and it was absolutely phenomenal. Being able to feed all these different, exotic animals and interact with them was a dream come true. The zoo itself is run well, clean, and you can tell all the animals are happy and healthy, and have such good bonds with the keepers.

I did the Wonders of Wildlife experience - it's not cheap but it's worth every penny/cent! All of the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and my host Brendan was just fabulously knowledgeable and kind. I met and fed so many animals such as tigers, cheetahs, a hyena, giraffes, monkeys, birds, reptiles and a tree kangaroo to name a few and I feel so privileged to have been able to do this, the day really was beyond my wildest dreams! I had the most magical and awe inspiring day - I just can't find enough superlatives to fully describe what a fabulous day I had, the memories will stay with me forever and if I ever return to Canberra I will do it all again!
