Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We has a lovely time wandering around this garden. The Cafe was sweet, with tasty food and a beautiful view when sitting in the courtyard. It was a beautiful way to spend an afternoon and the view from the Hillary Heights walk was nice.

Gardens are nice but the high tea is really ordinary for $52 per head. Poor service and to top it off when I requested more tea I was told I had to pay extra. A pot of tea is one tea bag and hot water. Not recommended

My daughter, Niece and I visited the gardens on our last day in Auckland. It is beautiful, I wish I knew they had afternoon tea. It was a last minute decision. I was looking for something to do, and found this beautiful garden. The staff is very friendly. You buy your entrance ticket, and you are given a map. Just walk all over, you will see beautiful plants, flowers, a waterfall, and even a beautiful parrot (a Rosella) if you're lucky. Go and enjoy lunch, a coffee, or afternoon tea. Take your time, get out of the busy city and enjoy.

This garden is a hidden Auckland gem! After hiking up and down Mount Eden, I visited the garden and it was beautiful! Hard to imagine this was once an abandoned quarry! There were beautiful walkways, lined with flowers and flowering bushes, and multiple benches placed throughout all the trails of the garden. If you hike up yo the top of the garden, the views are nice as well. So glad I went!

Visited here because there was a Tulip display. Hadn't been before - & expected they would have a car park, but no. Narrow street, cars parked both sides, expect to have quite a big walk back to the gardens from Mountain Road (unless you are very lucky & chance on a park by the Gardens). Tulips were absolutely beautiful, the walks were great - very well looked after and a very relaxed place to explore. Had lunch at the cafe - lots of choices, not cheap, but nice food. Overall would thoroughly recommend it.

Really enjoyed visiting this place, plenty of seats to sit in tranquil surroundings, well kept gardens in an old quarry.
One drawback however is that it isn't suitable for wheelchair users as there are some steep banks.
Good selection of food and drinks at the cafe, well worth a visit

Came here with a group of friends to try their High Tea. Despite the $35 fee to dine, you would think this would waive the $8 fee to get inside the area. The food itself had very little to choose from that for a group of people, all the items fit into just one 3-layered tier, and the sweet selections were tiny pieces of chocolates, we kept wondering if there were more that hadn't been served. The scones were stiff, almost rock hard, but warm like they had just been from the microwave. We didn't get the right value for the money we spent. Will not be coming back and will definitely not be recommending.

The lady at the counter was nice but did not offer a map of the gardens. We needed a coffee before we started and ordered together with a scone with jam and cream and a piece of carrot cake. 20 mins in with our coffees nearly gone I asked where were our cakes. The reply was the chef is doing fresh cream (did they have to go and find the cow to take so long). At 30 mins with our coffees gone we asked them to just put the items in a takeaway container and we would collect them after the walk.
I suppose we were at the end of summer but the garden looked very run down. There was no names on trees or plants just a lot of peoples names which I gather was in memorium. The terrain is very rough and steep - to be expect, it is on the side of Mt Eden after all. I havent been since I was in my teens and it is not as I remembered.

This is on the hop on hop off route and well worth a visit.
Lovely atmospheric gardens with shady spots for a quiet sit down.
Did find the predominance of memorial plaques detracted a little (but if that's what you have to do to keep it going). Pretty quiet on the day we went, so just perfect.

Now here's the thing..
The hop on hop off bus came and went ahead of it's scheduled time (leaving us stuck for an hour). The lovely lady on the reception offered to drive us up to the Museum even apologising for the dog hairs in the car!

Now that's not just great customer service, that's just being very nice!

Thank you

A delightful surprise in the middle of a suburb backing on to a green belt.
Spectacular views from the top of the Hilary walk. Sculptures hidden in different spots and a lot of different little pathways, nooks and crannies to explore.
Cafe on site as well.
Great for anyone to visit.
