The weather was rough but we made the most of our visit to this scenic spot. Chasing each other with seaweed, drawing patterns in the sand with driftwood and playing on the nearby playground. Can't wait to go back and try a swim in the...More

This is a very special place. Unspoilt with not too much development. One of my favourite kiwi beaches.

In many ways this beach is a great alternative to New Chums - it’s big, good swimming, lagoon for the kids and no muddy track or boulder hopping required

The kids (aged 7 and 9) loved playing on this beach. It has a small lagoon area and was very calm and safe when we visited.

As with most beaches in this part of the Coromandel, this beach is lovely. I would recommend staying near the eastern tip of the beach. Things are more quiet here and the rocks are great for some snorkeling (beware of big waves).

We have stayed on the Coromandel a few times on trips from the UK. There are so many beaches that it almost becomes boring to say they are beautiful, stunning, scenic, sandy, good for children, great for swimming... This one too!

Loved this one. Rather than just being a long flat sandy one there are rock pools to explore too. A car park at the end of the beach makes it easily accessible and there are picnic tables and toilets too.

There is no cafe at Whangapoua, there is only the general store in the middle section of the beach.
