Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited the museum almost by accident, since it happened to be on the way to the Etty Bay beach. The museum was interesting presenting the history of Queensland and the habitation of the area. We learned something about how remarkable the sugar industury has been and still is to the area.

What’s with all the five star reviews!?!? This place was a huge disappointment ! Videos which freeze in the middle, faded information banners, others with so much text peeled off they’re unreadable, labels missing the end of sentences, a strange collection of artefacts mostly without labels. This place desperately needs some TLC. A few hours work and a small amount of money and it could be great. Seriously - a video made in 1995 and never updated!?! …

It filled in an hour on a wet afternoon, but if you don’t visit, you’re really not missing much!

What an interesting museum.
There are a lot of excellent plant and equipment displays.
The photos and writeups of the state of the early cane workers was very interesting and full of information that is generally not known.
Well worth a visit.

By doing online research we discovered the existence of this Museum at Mourilyan, 10 klms south of Innisfail.
You commence by viewing the introductory film in the theatrette which is well produced and very informative. The whole display of vehicles, machinery etc is quite amazing and it just gives you an incredible insight into the industry and especially how harsh the conditions were in years gone by especially when cane cutting was done by hand!
The volunteer staff at reception are such lovely people as well as being so informative and helpful as well. It is a great snapshot of our sugar industry heritage.

Web site, brochures and trading hours shown on the front door clearly states
"open Monday to Friday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm." We arrived at 4.10 pm Friday 6/5/2016 and were abruptly told by the gentleman carrying the cashier till that it was closed! I pointed out to him that the web site and the sign on the door together including all the advertising stated a 5.00 pm close, to which he replied "we're closed"
No apology and he was the least concerned about us and wanting us to go away!
We've been to many exhibits around the country in our travels but we are always met with courtesy and a welcoming smile.
I think he needs a touch of sugar in his persona!
We won't be coming back!
A and A travellers.

Travelling from Port Douglas we were surrounded by this tropical plant but knew nothing about it apart it eventually ended up as sugar. We came across this museum as we headed south and decided to stop hoping that it would answer a few questions.
SO pleased we did. Greeted by two lovely ladies and paid just $12 dollars to view an extensive museum that was a credit to the sugarcane industry. Left with answers and a pamplets, jellybeans, sugar, dvd etc. Next time you are passing by stop and visit.

A very interesting place to visit and to find out about the history, as well as the manufacture of sugar from sugar cane.
The two gentlemen who manned the museum were extremely knowledgeable.
It would be a must for school children.
I will return when next in the area.
A good café next door to add to it attractiveness.

While travelling around we had past many sugar cane fields and had been asking lots of questions. We were advised by caravan park to go here and we were surprised at what we learnt. The gentleman on the counter was so helpful with questions we asked after spending an hour and a half viewing old machinery, watching videos etc. All our questions were answered and we now have more knowledge of the sugar industry. Also got bag of jelly beans and bag of raw sugar on exit.
