About
A unique and exciting way to get in touch of the true nature of the Mayan Riviera is on the back of a horse combined with a Cenote swim. We have healthy, well trained horses appropriate for first timers, novice and intermediate riders. Our tours are semi-private consisting of groups up to 12 riders, ensuring that everyone receives personal attention from our friendly, knowledgeable guides. We are located in a very convenient location between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. During the trail ride be ready to spot various species of birds, iguanas, butterflies and eventually spider monkeys and coatis; our guides will give you an interesting and entertaining commentary along the trails while you pass by a local plantation and follow the path that will lead you to visit a deep natural pit or sinkhole -characteristic of Mexico- resulting from the collapse of limestone bedrock that exposes groundwater underneath. We will then remount and head back to the ranch, where at the end of the ride you will be given an opportunity to take a refreshing swim in our open air Cenote and enjoy some cool refreshments.Private tours can be offered for advanced riders upon request. Please do not forget to bring bug spray, sunscreen, closed toe shoes , bathing suit & towel and be ready to enjoy a different way to spend your day. WIFI es available on site.

My friend and I booked our tour with Bonanza through the El Dorado Royale hotel and couldn’t have been happier. It’s a short golf cart ride to the ranch, which features many horses, donkeys, goats, birds, and pigs. They are very cautious of your safety, explaining how to handle the horses and providing helmets. Manuel and Alma were our guides. They were amazing! Made me feel extremely comfortable on the horses and we had a great conversation about the jungle during the ride. We even got to see some spider monkeys in the trees! Manuel explained the history of the cenotes and some other Mayan tales which we loved. After riding on the horses for about an hour, we were taken to the cenote, which basically is a small pond with clear water which was extremely refreshing!!! All around amazing experience. There also is a photographer taking pictures the entire way that you can purchase for an additional fee. Would highly recommend to anyone staying at the hotel as it was an unforgettable experience.

My husband and I had a great time going on a trail ride at Rancho Bonanza in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. Armando and Manuel did a great job on instructing and supervising not just the adults, but also the two children in the party as well. They gave us a very informative tour and we learned a lot about the trees and wildlife. They were friendly and great guys just to hang out with! The horses we rode were Chili and Gitana. Each horse was selected for each person based on horseback riding experience. One of the children had not ridden and the instructor held onto an additional rope to that child's horse to ensure maximum safety and security while she was riding. The horses are rescue horses, and it is great to see how well taken care of and loved they are. We would definitely go riding again.

We were a group of 4 and was escorted by 3 guides, who were helpful, funny, patient, and entertaining. Manuel was our informational guide who told us a lot of information about Mayan history, the jungle, the cenote, and more. The guides were personable and was willing to answer all of our groups many questions. One of the people in our group was a first time rider and has/had a fear of horses. The guides were amazing with him! I can't say enough about how fun this experience was!

I loved the beautiful views and wildlife you pass by. Definitely worth the money hands down. This is a walking trail and to finish off you get to swim in a cenote. The water this time of year, (very early fall), was chilly but your body gets use to it very quickly.

The staff was amazing along with the horses, which the majority are rescues! You can buy pictures that are taking along the ride afterwards, (amazing quality).

I rode Macarena, a beautiful and sweet grey horse who will take you through the trails wonderfully. On my ‘adventure’, I was able to meet the other horses they have and learn about their history. This is a wonderful facility that I hope to visit again! Overall this is 100% a must visit in your vacation, wether you’ve ever been on a horse or not!

They have some amazing horses that you can put your younger children on and not have to worry. So much effort is put into this stable, especially with the horse and their rehabilitation journeys.

If you are looking for a good horse adventure or ride through the jungle, this is the one I recommend with all my heart.

Learning about the Mayan culture and their beliefs was so enlightening, the stories and tales were very fascinating!

The facility was phenomenal! It was one of the cleanest stable I’ve ever seen, so much worth is put into keeping a facility with any size animals, and they have mastered it. They have a on site trainer and veterinarian who are amazing at what they do.

Speaking of various sizes of animals, they have pigs who weigh 500kg along with adorable goats!

If they have any horses who they are still working with they will tell you what you can and cannot do around them.

P.s. the staff is so friendly and helpful, the dr. was so kind and had amazing advice. Also, the ones who lead us on the trail were some of the kindest and funniest people I’ve met!
And do NOT be afraid to ask any questions you have!

Wow! What a fantastic experience. Hubby and I visited Rancho Bonanza yesterday for the first time. We were hosted by the incredibly knowledgeable Fernanda! A true character… from the minute we entered the property, she kept us entertained by narrating to us about the Mayan history. She knows her stuff and does it well! The guys at the ranch were so hospitable and accommodating. They made me feel so comfortable being a first time horse rider. Let’s not forget about the stars of the Ranch, the horses. Thank you Canelita and Rambo for the wonderful ride through the trails. We will forever have these incredible memories thanks to the perfect pictures taken by the photographer on site. Thank you all! 🥰

We Highly recommend Rancho Bonanza!

We did a morning ride with Alma as our guide. You could tell that Alma loves what she does by the way she teaches and handles the horses. We rode through the jungle for maybe close to thirty minutes, took a rest where Alma explained to us how organic gum is made, we got to sample the gum as well. Then she told a love story. We were back on the horses after that to ride back to the ranch, where we got to take a dip in a cenote and then have snacks and drinks. I've gone horseback riding in WV before and the horses here at Bonanza were much more calm, friendly and laid back. Even my horse, Chili, who wanted to keep stopping to eat. I was constantly tugging on her to try to get her back on the trail and it didn't even phase her! I'd definitely recommend this horseback riding to anyone who is visiting the area! It only took about two hours so you had plenty of time to do other things in the day!

Shout out to Alma (future lawyer) Esmeralda (aka Selma H) and Louis (graphic designer and paparazzi) for making our day trip exceptional. We rode horses that have been rescued into the jungle- walking and appropriate for beginners - then learn some Mayan culture. I found the entire crew delightful and genuine. After riding you end the trip in a Cenote that is beautiful and quaint. Covid comfort level felt distant and was a small group of 6. I loved that all the animals were rescued and appear to be treated quite well. Great decision. Tip- if you are willing to sit through the sales presentation at el dorado we got 2 for 1 for this trip and 2 50 min massages. The talk is not 1 hour... at least 2.

My boyfriend and I did the horseback riding and cenote tour for my birthday and it was awesome! Our guides Paula and Lily were so knowledgeable, shared so many stories about Mayan culture and history and made sure it was a great experience. We were in a small group with one other couple so it was very intimate and personalized. My horses name was Macerena and she was a beautiful horse - very calm and was easy to manage for the most part aside from trying to have a couple snacks along the way. My boyfriends horse was Tomate and he definitely had a big personality. We would for sure recommend!

A charming ranch with a lot of well kept and well trained rescue animals; horses, donkeys, dogs, pigs and more. The horse ridning part feels safe even for beginners, we had Lili as our guide and she was very nice and gave good and easy to understand, instructions. I got Adventure, a very calm and attentive horse. We where four paying guests with different level of riding experience and, including Lili, four staff riders spread evenly between us, ready to intervene if any of the horses should try something. There was no trotting or gallop (regardless of the rider’s skill level) during the ride, only horse walking along a path in the djungle, from where we spotted wild mokeys, birds and iguanas. During a short stop, Lili took us by foot deeper into the djungle and told us interesting facts about the fauna and some ancient Maya traditions. After the ride back to the ranch it was refreshing to swim in the cenote. Complimentary snacks and beverages was a nice touch. All in all, a very satisfying halt day experience!

Fernanda and Paula were fabulous tour guides. Engaging stories and history that involved Mayan history, legend, and nature. Palomino was my horse - the “grandpa” of the group. During the ride, we felt well taken care of with the cowboys that accompanied our group. The work the sanctuary does is very admirable and you can tell all the staff genuinely cares about the mission and animals. It’s a lovely facility that is well thought out for the animals’ needs and a positive experience for people. The cenote was beautiful and picturesque.
