Great walk today. A good time of the year to go as not too hot- 24 degrees- and not too busy. October. My advice would be to wait until after 10 am to start walking as it can be busy at the top as everyone...More
If you’re expecting a leisurely stroll, don’t even bother going to Samaria Gorge. Especially if you are unfit and not used to walking. Me and my partner do around 10 thousand steps per day (sometimes we don’t walk at all) and we found this walk...More
Whilst on holiday in Chania we wanted to ‘walk the gorge’. Our hotel receptionist suggested getting the bus from Chania. After reading the reviews this is how we decided to get to Samaria. It is very straightforward and simple to get the bus at a...More
Great hike down the gorge. It's long but not that challenging as it's all downhill with regular rest points and access to water.
Got there on a tour bus pretty early around 7.30 (6.10 departure from Chania) and had the gorge to ourselves as it...More
Great hike of 16 km. If you start from Omalos side first hour you spent on walking down the stairs. We made it in October and it was crowded. Cannot imagine high season. Entrance fee 5 EUR. There is a car park before the main...More
This was NOT a hard hike! It was a long, easy walk at most.
We almost didn’t go because of all the reviews saying it was really tough. If you have low-moderate fitness you will be able to complete this easily. It is all flat...More
Having completed a few Himalayan walks in the distant pass my wife and myself (ages 65 and 69 respectively) decided on the 16 Km trek in Crete.
We are quite fit spending Australian winters enjoying the snow.
The weather was ideal and the trek was...More
One of most beautiful sceneries you can find around. Only national park in Crete and longest george of Europe (16km). Descent starts from 1280m and is very steep at begining. It ends on the shore of Libyan see and nature during the hike is nothing...More
Travelled from Malia (pick up 4.25am and return 11pm). I am a 54 year old male, enjoy playing golf and general walking but no other exercise; I am a healthy weight. If your fitness profile is the same or better than mine you can do...More

It is possible. We did that too. You have go take the ferry to Sougia from Agia Roumeli. There is only one in the afternoon. The bus to return to Omalos waits for the ferry to arrive. If you plan to spend the night there... More
It is possible. We did that too. You have go take the ferry to Sougia from Agia Roumeli. There is only one in the afternoon. The bus to return to Omalos waits for the ferry to arrive. If you plan to spend the night there ask the driver to drop you off near the hotel, because the bus goes to the entrance of the Samaria gorge.
