We hiked the Samaria Gorge just a few days ago - wow - it was breathtaking from the first step. The hike starts at the top of the gorge and you walk downhill through stunning mountainous, alpine and riverbed scenery. The walk is 'easy' in...More

Both me and my friends absolutely loved this experience - definitely the best part of our week long trip to Crete! It wasn't really that hard - my hands did swell up twice the size from the heat and I did get a heatstroke so...More

This excursion is not for the faint hearted! The walk through the gorge itself is 13km of often steep up and downhill terrain but it is worth it for all of the sights that you see along the way! (I will attach photographs!) Samaria Gorge...More

First, ignore the reviews that say this is an easy hike, it is absolutely not! To put it in perspective, I climbed Scotland's Ben Nevis last year and I felt this is way harder. Samaria Gorge is 10 miles on an uneven rocky path: the...More

We did the gorge end of July this year. It is an easy hike, just a bit tough on toes as it is steep at the beginning and with many small stones along the way. You walk on shadow almost all the way except for...More

No sandals, crocs or tennis sneakers recommended. We signed up for an excursion to Samaria Gorge with Elafonissos Travel. It cost 22 Euros...More

Beginning of August in Crete, temperatures can get into the 40ies. I was lucky, we only got 40, in the shade. :) The first few km are down hill in very rocky terrain. Wear good shoes, but I did see a few people with just...More

I found it hard to find a tour for a Sunday or Monday (apparently they only from Heraklion on Tuesdays and Thursdays) and after some really unhelpful tourist agents in Heraklion and an even more unhelpful Viator.com I found this amazing company, Altimo Travel, after...More

Fantastic trip for nature lovers! Breathtaking! Very good organization by local company Klados and fantastic guide Barbara. Good to have knee support if you have any trouble with your legs because you are going down 950m for the first 7km. We had good luck as...More

We went on the hike the first week in May when the gorge was first open after the winter. Therefore it was not too hot or crowded. The coach picked us up from our hotel at 5.30 am and we started our walk at 9.30am....More

Yes you can. It is just a large “dirt road” parking. Nobody is checking and there is no payment. Kind regards Henriette

It is better to take the van with the company, because you will end in a different spot than where the hike starts
