Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice place to relax and for sun bathing.
May 22 fairly quiet. Safe swimming. Hot days cool evenings
Glyfad beach bar and restart is located on this beach.
I would highly recommend this bar and lounging area.
We spent the day here.
Good facility's.

Well you don’t see many ships washed up on the beach do you so if you are passing then take a stroll and have a look. But what was far more refreshing was the pens that had been built around the freshly laid turtles eggs to protect them. Great to see efforts made to protect this wildlife which is threatened by sun loungers!

Pay attention to the fanciful indications that you find here and there to reach the beach of the stranded boat! Above all, don't access it via Selinitza or Valtaki.... like us, you risk getting lost. Simply head towards Glyfada Beach. There is a huge car park, the beach just a stone's throw away and the boat 100 meters to the left. Not the wonder of the world but an unusual vision and an atmosphere that is worth it

The shipwreck Dimitrios is worth a visit when in Gytheio the wreck has been stranded here since 1981.
Situated on Selinistra Beach which is long and sandy a great spot for a swim if not too windy and there is also a lovely tavern at the end of the beach.

I really don't see the appeal. It is a rusted boat! Not particularly old or historical. Let's face it: there is not much to see or do in Githio. It is just a pleasant and convenient central point to explore Mistra and the mani peninsula.

Perfect if you like a trifle hounted atmosphere for your swim. The water is very accessible, warm to hot, so clear that carretta carrettas have their favorite nesting spots on the shore. No danger if you swim behind the wreck, but if you enter you do it at your own risck. The rust is not polluting as a reviewer wrote: the water is full of life!
Black spots: I detest noisy tavernas on the beach and turists who do'nt consider the garbage bin as an option, trashing the dunes with plastic and tins. I use to collect the garbage in plastic bags I carry with me to the garbage general, and the sorroundig tourists stearing at me with an odd glance. I BELIEVE IN GIVING THE GOOD EXAMPLE, especially if kids are around.

I am sorry to disappoint some, but the shipwreck -actually a grounded ship- is good and safe only to take some photo from a distance or from the beach. It's well noticeable for the passing byers on the road Gyhteio-Skala Lakonias and at certain point one can stop his car near the kiosk next to the road and take the picture. I wouldn't recommend swimming near the shipwreck or going on it because it is heavily rusted and the condition of the steel plates is heavily deteriorated and after so many years there, it is at crucial point. The sea around it, although looks beautiful might not be as suitable as it seems since a so heavily rusted ship is a pollutant factor. Nevertheless, there are people that ignore this fact and do swim there. In any case if you are decided not just taking a picture or walking on the beach, then do swim but at your own risk.

Definitely worth checking out if you like me are a fan of old abandoned things/places.
Very easy walk from the I guess the center of Gytheio to the beach.
Little sad that it's graffiti on it but it seems to be graffiti almost everywhere in Greece for some reason.

The beach facilities are good and can satisfy all beach needs. The bar serves coffee and drinks at fair prices. The food at the tavern is decent and there is a variety of fresh cooked plates to satisfy every one. The prices are very decent.

You can swim and snorkel around it. There is a possibility to swim inside as the ship has stranded in very shallow waters, but be carefull as it is rusty and you can hurt yourself.
