The far north of Malta is good for walking, it's safe, quiet and even the main road has a walkway separated from the traffic by a metal barrier. Watch how you go in the hot sun and take a bottle of water!

With plenty of fresh air, countryside, no cars around, open spaces and close to the Mediterranean sea. Very refreshing first thing in the morning or late afternoon. Amazing sunset.

There did not seem to be much obvious trail walking in Malta, so when we heard of the Marfa Ridge Walk, we decided to check it out. We were able to start it at the Ramla Bay Hotel, where we were staying, which was a bonus. If you are staying elsewhere, simply take a bus towards the Gozo ferry terminal and get off at Mellieha Bay. From Ramla Bay we headed west along the coast towards Armier. There were some good views looking across to Comino and Gozo. At White Tower Bay the route turns and a fairly long road section begins. Unfortunately, there was a lot of litter on the roadside. Things improved when Mellieha Bay came into view below us as we made our way to the Red Tower. We then made our way across rough tracks to the radar station before dropping down to Paradise Bay. The walk is not signposted at all and we went slightly wrong at this point. After briefly trespassing we were back on track and on the beach. We then headed back along the road to Ramla Bay to complete our nine mile circular walk of the 'hammerhead' coastline.

We love this walk in the spring. This year the pimpernels and sand crocus were wonderful. Also spotted wild friesia and anemones. The views are spectacular. We never tire of looking out over the sea.when the sun shines it sparkles.when it's stormy the waves look and sound beautiful. Well worth a photo.

This is part of the hammer head at the top of Mellieha. Walk past the Mellieha Bay hotel and along the coastal path about an hour in each direction.
Stunning scenery and views across to Comiono and Gozo. Get to the end of the headland by the old tower and you can see all 3 islands.
It is not a difficult walk but try to do in the early morning before it gets too hot. Be sure to take plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat. Suitable walking shoes are a must as it is rocky in parts.
Just after the Mellieha Bay hotel you can drop down into a rocky cove where small boats are moored and divers are apparent.
You will pass stone gunner points which were used in WW2 as you get further along the walk.
We have completed this walk twice now. On the 2nd occasion we walked out through a car park above and onto the Tarmac main road. We took a left where there are sign posts for the camp site and found ourselves on a sandy beach which was Armier Bay.
You can also do a left at the red tower and continue a gentle climb where you will get to a bench which has amazing views of the cliffs.
Continue up to the disused radar building walk across land to the right and again you get amazing views of the other islands and the Gozo ferry crossing.
You can also take a steep rocky path for around an hour half way between the red tower and the radar station. This walk will take you to the stunningly beautiful paradise Bay.

We started from Meillha Bay and walked past some shabby holiday chalets now seemingly used as homes. up a road to the coast then ascended steps to the top of the ridge. We visited the Red Tower then returned and walked out on the edge of the cliffs. You have to take great care here as it is extremely rough going and there are large fissures in the limestone cliffs at the edges in some parts. You get splendid views over to Gozo and back to Inland Malta. Eventually you descend to Paradise Bay and I had a nasty fall here but managed to complete the walk. The ridge is the best part of the walk but we continued along the promenade and to the various bays. We cut back before reaching the White Tower as I was still bleeding from my fall. The ridge is well worth visiting. Only walk the cliff edge if you have good walking boots.

Having followed a couple of awful walks from a guide book in the south of Malta we thought that this area would be better. Walked along the ridge to the remains of the American listening station which is covered in graffiti and used as a toilet. On a Sunday cars fly up and down the ridge. It is not peaceful. The views are good but the walk is nothing great. Walk in the opposite direction, there are a few parts that are ok but there is a lot of rubbish dumped and sometimes when following a guidebook walk it left us wondering if the person who wrote it had actually been! Where holiday homes are mentioned at various 'beaches' it's more like housing hovels. It may sound awful but these walks round the peninsula leaves you feeling depressed the are being such a shambles. If you enjoy beautiful walks don't go to Malta

Could you tell how long this trip was taken and how would you rate it's difficulty? Any elevation or hard surfice? Is it an easy walking path?

I think it took me around 5 hours, with many breaks for taking pictures and stuff. No, it's not difficult.
