The Maspalomas lagoon is a stunning piece of nature - a great place to observe the wildlife - lots of egrets at close quarters

A nice, accessible walk, where you see the mountains, wild bird life, the dunes, the sea and lots of interesting people passing by. :-) Beware of large groups of women wanting to "shake your hand".

The weather in Feb/March was a rather wet in the mountains which caused the lake to be filled to overflowing by the water running down the storm channel. It was fascinating to see the beach eroded by the water flow. Soon shored up by two...More

Always an accessable reserve there seem to be lots more birds this year. A bonus is that the touts and ,'beggars' alongside seem in the main to have been cleared away. Well worth a visit.

Looks like an oasis in the desert right next to the dunes. Many birds and a very pleasant place to stop for a while and enjoy the view.

This was a nice surprise to see a nature reserve alongside our walk to Maspalomas centre. We saw the reserve and birds at dusk and again at night with a full moon, absolutely magical.

Staying locally chanced upon this inland lagoon. Lots of Little egrets, but really nice views of Spoonbills on the island with the bare tree for migrating ospreys. Annoyed I left my camera at home!

Always like to walk out this way & see the lovely birds who are quite happy to pose for photos. On a clear day the views are stunning. Just be aware of the nuisance black, aggressive, female street sellers. My advice would be don’t speak...More

Seems so out of place but tranquil and picturesque. The Herons are fan as is the whole area. Give it a go.

Herons, gulls, pigeons, sparrows and an occasional stork live on or visit the lagoon every day. The herons rule the roost, but there is also peaceful co-existence of species who are competing for the food resources here and in the hearby sea. It is easy...More

Sorry but I have no idea where to go "Twitching" on Gran Canaria, you could try Googling it or email the Gran Canaria tourist board.
