Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Neither well advertised nor signposted and thus pleasantly quiet, these are fascinating and well presented remains of what was an important trading port on the Adriatic. Excavations are ongoing so there may well be more to come in the next few years. The Acropolis portion of the site is not generally open and we regretted having missed the once-off opening for European patrimony days (third weekend of September). Masses of atefacts in the museum so be selective. The new subsea exhibit would be great for children.

Planned our last day in Puglia around visiting this site. Arrived at 12:20, 70minutes before closing to be told that the outdoor site would close in 10minutes and so we couldn't visit it. Only the museum was available. Just a massive disappointment
The web-site actually says the site is open 08:30 to 19:00, but I had carefully researched opening times and found they actually close at 13:30. Except even this is incorrect.
In reality I guess you need to get there before 11:00 to see the external site. It would be nice if they had the courtesy to make this information available.

Very little of the ancient city is left and
many areas are cordoned off including the Acropolis on the sea shore.
The adjacent museum is the only redeeming feature, it is well designed and appointed .
A few of the artifacts displayed are unusual and attractive.

I normally lose interest in museums but this one kept me engaged. The layout and information was excellent and it was great to find an app to help and lots of information available in English. It was amazing to learn about the history of this area. The museum isn't huge but then you have the outside area to explore also. This is where the app was really good. By scanning a Qtag on a post I could gets loads of info. We visited on a Saturday so there were no school children and in February there were no crowds and the weather was pleasantly warm for walking around.

This is an amazing place, not least because the ruins are so extensive. We literally found them as we drove along a road so I was surprised there was so little advertised about them locally. A definite visit if you're interested in the history of Puglia

Stayed a couple of hours there was so much to see and an excellent museum. Staff very helpful and if you time it right can join one of the free tours that explains some of the sites which stretch over the road. Bit of walking and a sun protection and water recommended particularly in the warmer months

Having seen most of the sights in the Monopoli area we were looking for something to do for a couple of hours and so headed to the Scavi di Egnazia. We weren't expecting much from the photos, but they don't do the excavations justice. We were advised at the ticket office to visit the ruins and the tombs before visiting the museum, so we did just that, starting with the tomb of the pomegranates. The tomb is quite impressive in the fact that it has a moving door and is decorated up high with paintings of pomegranates. From there we headed to the main excavations which were interesting enough and we spent a good half an hour walking around. Unfortunatley you can't visit the section near the sea, which was the bit that we had really hoped to visit, so we headed to the necropolis and the museum. The museum is full of artefacts from the sights but unfortunately most of the information is in Italian only which is not great if you don't speak Italian. The museum itself is air conditioned which is a relief on a hot day. There's also a well priced vending machine if you fancy a cold drink.

Being so used to Romans only it ws great to see some there perspective and get more explanation. I never knew there are typical female amphora/ jugs. Now I do.
And I’m always impressed to see the wagontrails. Especially on the via Traiana as a shortcut for the via Appia.
Absolutely worth a visit.

this place is really worth the effort to get to. The museum where you first arrive is fascinating. you can then visit the grave site and enter one of the graves which is very interesting. you can then visit the the excavations with the roman bath area probably being the most impressive bit. However, the sight has only been partially excavated compared to the huge size of the original city. The staff were very friendly and it was very quiet when we visited. There were only 4 other people there, wonderful!

Amazing insight into the Necropolis, visit the underground tomb, slight extra charge. There is an English audio tour. Most of the exhibits in the museum are explained only in Italian.
