I was blown away with the walk, how quiet it was, and how majestic the Kauri trees were. They stand like soldiers guarding the forest and the secrets within. The walk was easy going and about 1.3 km to Te Matua Ngahere. There was certainly something special about this place.

First time seeing Te Matua and wow what an impressive tree. Tane Mahuta maybe the boss but this guy is just as impressive and well worth the longer walk!

Magical experience with excellent guides. To be in the Bush surrounded by the magnificent trees in the dark was surreal. A memory that I hope never leaves me.

Te Matua Ngahere, the father of the forest, is the fattest living Kauri tree in New Zealand with a girth of more than 16 meters. Just like his boss, Tane Mahuta, the God of the forest, he is an impressive appereance in a forest full of amazing Kauri trees. These giants are considered between 1200 and 2000 years old and are still growing! It gives you a true meaning about nature and men's impact on it.

Well worth the extra walk from the car park (past the four sisters). This tree actually has a wider girth than the largest Kauri.
