The Catajo Castle was built by the Obizzi family around the year 1000. Over the centuries it has been expanded several times, the Obizzi family died out in 1803 and left the castle to the Archdukes of Modena. After the First World War it was requisitioned by the Italian state and then sold , later it became a farm for the cultivation of tobacco . In 2016 it was purchased by the Cervellin family and extensive restoration began . at the entrance after the ticket office you can admire the courtyard of the giants and the elephant fountain , then continue up the external stairs built to climb with horses . The main floor preserves the cycle of painting depicting the history of the Obizzi family 13 beautifully furnished rooms (pity it is not possible to take photographs) . to finish you move on to the visit of the large garden .Epossible to make guided tours but only on the weekend and then there is a large parking at a cost of 1 euro

Charming mansion/castle, built by the Obizzi family, surrounded by a large park with centuries-old plants. The palace is considered one of the most impressive historic European houses and is the result of several extensions. It was used as a summer residence for parties and gatherings, plays and tournaments. Very fascinating the monumental entrance, the garden of the Giants on the left used for the naumachie (you can see traces of ancient frescoes on the walls) and the panoramic terrace overlooking the Euganean hills.
The garden, through an ingenious hydraulic network, could be completely flooded.
The external stairs are very special and have been designed to be suitable for horses' hooves. The interior is completely frescoed and tells the story of the family, each room has an episode to narrate and is topped by allegories and symbols. The guided tour was very exhaustive and detailed, the guides are prepared and attentive. We then had lunch with aperitif on the terrace and meat menu thanks to a corporate event. A dip in history that I recommend as a stop for those who go to the area.

From Abano Terme we struggled a bit because Catajo or Cataio is a road that never ends. Little publicity we found reading billboards in Abano. A real gem I had never heard of despite reading about Pio Enea Obizi as one of the many commanders of fortune companies who was also in the service of the Serenissima. The castle leaves amazed by the size, beautiful and panoramic exterior and large park. But the interior and its centuries-old history to follow with the self-guide (unfortunately there are only guided tours on Sundays) are worth a trip for those who love history and art.

This place is surprising, we have the Impression of a castle, but the interior transports us in I believe the renaissance, it is very well restored, the park has remarkable trees (very remarkable also the plane tree at the entrance of the bridge), this same park is well maintained. Beautiful visit to do after a morning of thermal treatments. The visit was facilitated by a paper booklet , in French, the explanations are clear and precise, very appreciable, otherwise there are QR codes at the entrance of each room.

A few steps from Abano and Montegrotto Terme this well-kept structure, at least in the part open to the public, offers the opportunity to admire the richly frescoed and well-kept rooms, although unfortunately bare furnishings.
The large gardens do not cause enormous emotions. Overall it is worth the visit ... as long as it does not rain : the parking lot becomes a quagmire.

A small, wonderful jewel in the heart of the Euganean Hills... Really beautiful and curatissimo.Una special mention goes to the Garden of Delights, with the water lily pond in which part of the building is reflected... Even just this glimpse would be worth the entire visit! For years I wanted to visit the castle with my child and today I finally managed to realize this sogno.Visit absolutely recommended!

The outside is very beautiful, with a large garden...pond and many fruit trees. A real relaxation to walk there. The interior can be quickly visited, the frescoes are very beautiful, but unfortunately they cannot be photographed. The guys at the ticket office are very friendly. Rascal is the beautiful red cat who stays at the castle.

Attracted by very positive reviews found on the Castle website, we "ventured" to visit it.
The indications give the place as easily reachable by public transport. We left Padua by train and the journey is actually comfortable and takes 24 minutes.
However, once you arrive at the Battaglia Terme station the only way to reach the place is to go on foot, having to travel along a stretch of high traffic road, without pavements. The time taken, indicated as 15 minutes on the site, is around half an hour (at a steady pace). The visit to the Castle, which is not open every day, was discreet: as reported by the official website, not all the rooms can be visited, but those of the "nobles" (visitable) were not so numerous (boasting a number of residences, according to what is always indicated) of 350 rooms.
An experience highly not recommended for anyone who intends to reach the residence without their own means.

Good morning! I regret having to inform this management of what happened yesterday. A very unpleasant episode that I would like to share with you.
I am in Abano Terme for spa treatments together with my husband and our beloved dog. A shithzu from which we never break away, well aware that it could never cause me any trouble. Used in all places and in all environments, even and above all the most elegant. Before accessing your site I made sure to find out about the rules for animal entry and everything was fine. Welcome inside the castle. Well. When we arrived at the counter to purchase the entry ticket, we were blocked and rebuked that it was absolutely not possible with the dog. We immediately showed that we had read the opposite. We were told that the news on the matter had evidently not been updated. Nothing helped by insisting. Very annoyed, the clerk at the counter didn't want to listen to reason. We left very disappointed and saddened. I would like explanations on this. Thank you. Also because I remember that there is a law that allows dogs obviously kept on a leash to enter everywhere. I would have kept mine in my arms or in the appropriate backpack given its "size".

This wonderful castle has a new owner, and in part I'm writing this review in the hope that they will use this opportunity to reconsider their tourist facilities.
We arrived on a sunny Sunday afternoon and were told to visit the gardens until our allocated guided tour (only in Italian) at 4.30. The gardens have been much improved, and it was a pleasure to spend our first half hour there.
Unfortunately, our group must have comprised 50 or more people, and the guide, an enthusiastic girl, gave so much information that it took half an hour of introduction before we even entered the castle. The frescos are fantastic, but we didn't need such detailed descriptions. It would have sufficed to have a caption beneath each one. The problem was that we were shut in each room, in great heat, so that other tours were not disturbed, and there was nowhere to sit down, and no air. Given that most of our group were middle aged or older, it became very difficult for some to stand, especially when they could not understand a word of the guided tour. In fact, after the 4th room, all the foreign visitors, and some Italians, left.
A further point is that there were no signs for toilets. Perhaps there weren't any!
I think the organisers could learn a lot from the National Trust. A person in each room (a volunteer) equipped with information would make the experience far more pleasant.
If you understand Italian, this castle is unmissable on any itinerary.
