Escape to east coast
Feb 2021 • Friends
My friend and I stayed in this relaxing place for long weekend holiday. Even though the location is 30 minutes drive to the city centre, it’s worth it especially if you’re a nature lover. You get a chance to wander in between the glades and gullies of the place. You will wake up listening the humming of birds around and the smell of fresh green grass. I have no hesitation to recommend this place and definitely, we will get back. Big thank you for Marion Nicholas who is so helpful from the time I reserve the room until we paid our accommodation.

A walk in the woods
Dec 2020 • Couples
We visited on a trip from Opotiki to Gisborne; It’s a bit of a diversion but worth the effort.

Massive collection of trees from around the world that reflects one man’s passion, now carried on by a not for profit foundation.

There are six different well-marked, colour-coded, trails that all start and finish at the visitors’ centre. Range of distances (from 45 minutes to 3 hours) and difficulty. We did the one hour “yellow walk” which was a nice amble. There are wheelchair accessible sections.

Apparently it’s the biggest collect of Northern Hemisphere trees in the Southern Hemisphere!

Something Different
Dec 2020
We weren’t too sure what to expect but were pleasantly surprised by our time at the Arboretum. The gardens and tracks are well maintained and the trees clearly labelled. We were too late to arrange for the guided tour. I would recommend taking the guided tour as there is so much to see. This needs to be arranged at least a day before your visit.

Peaceful hideaway

I spent a couple of hours walking around the Aboretum under the hot sun. It would have been easy to spend all day here wandering all the trails and listening to the birds and seeing all the exotic and native trees. For $15 it was great value and is definitely worth a visit. Got lost a few times but that's part of the fun, however you always get back to the visitor center!

A must see

This place truly is a national treasure. It’s a lovely way to spend a few hours wandering around soaking up the ambiance and peaceful surroundings. Lovely to hear the bird song and marvel at the flora and fauna. There are several well marked tracks you can walk.
There’s a children’s play area and a lovely souvenir shop.
Well worth the visit

Well worth putting Eastwoodhill on your things to do list ...Suggest you book the golf cart tour as you see lots more than if you just walked around

We stopped in and enjoyed several hours of gentle walks in a beautiful picturesque setting. Kids loved the playground and loved all thyr different trees and flowers, bridges and walkways. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours.

Well worth a visit.

This place deserves more visitors and is really worth the drive from Gisborne. It was our second visit and this time we had the guided tour which was a bargain. We found out plenty about the history and organisation, as well as lots of stuff about the trees. Also the shop there has a really interesting selection of items.

Relaxing walk
Jun 2020 • Couples
We were probably a couple of weeks too late for Autumn colors. That did not spoil a very relaxing stroll. Plenty of different tree specimens. An informative map issued on arrival, we then just wandered. Will return to view late spring.

An outstanding collection

Although there were places in this amazing arboretum where signage could have been more explicit and therefore less confusing, we enjoyed our visit there. Taking our picnic meant we were able to choose one of the pretty spots to take in the leafy ambience at the same time. Getting there from Gisborne was easily achieved thanks to clear road signs. Very worthwhile doing one of the longer walks too.
