The Colour Palate of Autumn...a blaze of glory
May 2021
It was my 5th visit to the national Arboretum and it did not disappoint. Improvements in access noted and delicious cheese scones and coffee on arrival. It was good to hear of the 100 year plan for the Arboretum. A special place to visit.

Wonderful!
Apr 2021
Peaceful place. Loved walking amongst the vast array of tall trees with their colourful Autumn leaves. Accommodation is clean & all inside, so it's very easy to access shared kitchen, bathrooms etc. Lovely area for eating outside. Friendly helpful staff. I'm keen to come back again. Nice for all ages, kids included, with a room for kids to do drawings/ educational experiences about plants. Reasonable gift shop., although I think there is a market there for someone to sell current beautiful photos of the trees in full colour, eg poster size. Needs a cafe!! Would be ideal after a walk to come back to a cafe. The grounds are not what I'd call, highly manicured, and some water features aren't working anymore but perhaps funding isn't what it used to be. Certainly these things didn't detract from my experience of the Arboretum and I've already recommended it to friends.

A fabulous autumn experience
Apr 2021
A wondrous experience: 1.5 hours of travelling in a golf buggy and a fascinating explanation of the history and the trees - for $22 each (because senior citizens) Thank you so much Martin!

Beginning to see colour end March

The whole place could have more money spent on it
Charming and delightful nevertheless.
We found the provided map confusing. Could do with more interpretation boards with the story
Enjoyed the formal gardens.

Wonderful arboretum
Apr 2021
Glorious walks amongst a wonderful selection of 3500 trees from around the world. Well signposted and a good choice of different walks, seats scattered around and lovely views. Super especially in the autumn with colours, sunshine and peace.

Stay here if you are biking the Motu trails

This is an amazing place to stay. We were a group of cyclists and found Marion very welcoming and efficient. Food that we had pre - ordered including dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch was plentiful and delicious. Beds comfortable. Interesting to be able to view history boards etc at our leisure and to have the whole Arboretum to ourselves overnight. This place is a National Treasure

Trees for ever
Mar 2021
I have always wanted to visit this place and finally managed to do so this month. Really enjoyed wondering around the mature trees for a couple of hours

Beautiful
Mar 2021
Such a tranquil place with a wide variety of trees and shrubs, in a variety of landscapes. Only disappointment was that the cafe was closed.

Beautiful area of nature and cultivated grounds
Feb 2021 • Couples
Beautiful area of nature. After a drive in the countryside you come to the Arboretum. It has a great picnic area under very mature trees to have lunch. Then 2 different areas. One of lovelly flower beds, manicured lawns and very mature trees and one of bush walks. Unfortunately for us a nice bush area with a wooden bridge cordoned off as people were topping a very high redwood tree. A large Kereru or wood pigeon was in the picnic area.

Escape to east coast
Feb 2021 • Friends
My friend and I stayed in this relaxing place for long weekend holiday. Even though the location is 30 minutes drive to the city centre, it’s worth it especially if you’re a nature lover. You get a chance to wander in between the glades and gullies of the place. You will wake up listening the humming of birds around and the smell of fresh green grass. I have no hesitation to recommend this place and definitely, we will get back. Big thank you for Marion Nicholas who is so helpful from the time I reserve the room until we paid our accommodation.
