Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The fort above Briancon's old city is definitely worth a visit. It's right at the top of the town and the entrance is to the left of the mining museum. Ticket cost is €6 (July 2017) and gets you a folder full of information about each of the 12 points you're directed to on the self-guided tour. They also loan you a torch if you need it for a few dark stairways. It takes about 45 minutes to get around. The fort's fairly abandoned but you can see what it used to be well enough.

Wear decent shoes as there's a lot of steps.

Very interesting fort! For a small fee, you can take a self-guided tour of the fort. A binder is provided with information about different areas of the fort and historical significance of such areas. At one time, this fort was considered the highest town in Europe. There is an interesting sundial at the top that shows what directions different countries are in. There are steps to climb so if you are able, the fort is worth a visit.

Well worth the climb up and 6 euro entry fee

The site is a bit tired which is a bit of a shame but very interesting and spectacular views

I would say some of the climbs up very steep steps would be tough for some and some of the walls and views are really exposed

We thought it was great

Beautiful architecture with winding streets and little shops. Lots of lovely dining options. Spectacular views across the mountains and valleys.

We decided to visit the fort instead of skiing that day.... what a disappointment... we arrived at 1.30 to find everything closed.. we made our way up to see the fort, no signs and ended up around the back to find a private property sign, so made our way back .. we managed to find another way .. by this time it was after 2pm so expected it to be open but we found it all locked.. there was no signs saying what time it open ...the last part of the climb was very slippery as it had not been cleared or treated. We made our way back down the path which was super dangerous..we passed another group of 6 people and warned them not to go any further as everything was locked up. We finally got back down to the village and went to the tourist information which was now open , they explained that the fort was not open and we inquired why there was no signs to explain this before people made the climb up.. we just got a shrug of the shoulders ...
By this time we had had enough and decided to leave.. what a waste of a day.
Finally , you have never seen so much dog poo in all your life .

It can be reached on foot after a nice hike, partly in the middle of the woods. You arrive and are greeted by military signs. It seemed to me that it could not be visited and so I only saw the outside. Bah.
