Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An interesting place with an eclectic mixture of things on display, all housed in the old Waikanae Post Office! Some hands on items for the younger visitors, and interesting tales, displays and artefacts for all ages.

Don’t be put off by the apparent small size of this museum. There’s far far more to see inside than I’d expected. I really enjoyed the dry humour of the labels on some exhibits. The stories behind the displays were surprisingly well told given this is a museum run by volunteers. It was well worth being here at the right time to visit.

I really liked this cute little museum that had an indomitable spirit like the Little Engine That Could. Housed in an old Government Post Office building it was chock full of interesting historical and geographical details pertinent to the Kapiti Coast area.

A local history museum set in a piece of Waikanae history (it was the Post Office at one point). Constantly changing display supported by a range of interesting local collections. Well worth a rainy day visit. The volunteers know their stuff and are enthusiastic about sharing it with visitors.

This is a great little museum for all ages! The older generation will enjoy reminiscing about the past whilst younger generations will learn how things have evolved over time. We particularly enjoyed the hands on experience of learning about telephone communications with the old style phone exchange and wind up phones. The 1930's style kitchen display was fabulous, along with the kids corner and the trip down memory lane. Well worth visiting!

This is a lovely little museum, has a lot of interesting history and items to look at. It's only little and you would probably only need about 30 mins to explore it, but it would be an interesting time

This is a brilliant museum. If you haven't been, please go. It is definitely a walk down memory lane. Well worth a visit. The volunteers are extremely knowledgeable and we had a great time looking at items we remembered from our childhoods.

This museum isnt very big but packed full of bits and pieces from days gone past. Interesting collection of old phones going way back to ones you had to crank the handle.
Really enjoyed this. Great place to take kids to show them how things used to be.
