Interesting to see the insides laid bare with fireplaces up on the wall twenty feet up, and outhouses with funny faces. The walk there is better than the effort to get there. However it had been much larger and has an interesting history fending off...More

As castles go this one is on the small side but it has an accessible roof with views over the sheep safely grazing in the surrounding fields. Accessed from Belsay Hall the castle benefits from being close to the quarry gardens which are a fascinating...More

great staff, helpul staff from stewards to waitress. Great garden, loved the quarry stones and plants. enjoyed the hose and gardens. thank you staff very helpful.

Take care on the spiral staircase and keep to the outside; but its well worth the effort to see the views from the top!

Belsay Castle is an English Heritage property. There is an unfurnished manor house, which is architecturally interesting, both beautiful formal gardens and a very informal fantastical quarry garden leading to the old castle.
