Good portions for your buck Best crepes.. 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽 Not all stalls have eftpos, but there’s an ATM next door at the local dairyVisited February 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 February 2023
- Justine RChristchurch, New Zealand37 contributionsHeaps of kai to choose from.Heaps of food to choose from and discounted tours. Everyone had smiles on their faces, the locals make the yummiest kai and we left full and bloated, so we pulled over on the side of the road and walked along the beach and watched the sun set. Simply amazing.Visited February 2023Written 15 February 2023
- Colin N6 contributionsAmazing food, affordable priceThis was some of our favourite food in Rarotonga and for a very affordable price. Go hungry since a lot of the vendors are very generous with their serving sizes. Some of the vendors had card machines, but I would recommend cash to leave your options open.Visited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 June 2023
- WikidkiwiBay of Islands, New Zealand147 contributionsThere are better places to eat for the same priceWe were quite underwhelmed to be honest - the food wasn't great and for the cost we could have eaten somewhere else with nicer food and some ambience. My meal partner's meal took ages, neither of our meals were very nice, and desert was expensive/nothing to write home about. Hubby was quite unwell for a couple of days after which we think was probably from his meal hereVisited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 July 2023

The vibe is excellent with really good food at an affordable price. The local vendors are friendly and the food is delectable.Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 July 2023
- Robbie P1 contributionThe seafood manOrdered from the seafood man and was served frozen fish marinara mix with rice and garlic for $23. At this price I assumed it would be fresh local fish and prawns etc. I’m not sure if this occurs regularly depending on local supply but was generally disappointed as the seafood man didn’t quite live up to its name.Visited July 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 23 August 2023
- Kiwitraveler59Wellington, New Zealand322 contributionsGreat selection of freshly cooked food at reasonable pricesMuri nightmarket is a casual and fun place to eat. There's a good variety of stalls cooking a variety of food to order. Food is good quality portions generous and prices reasonable. Sunday night is the busiest as most other food outlets are closed on Sunday. Pays to get there not long after it opens at 5:00pm.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 20 September 2023
- KiwidreamerAuckland, New Zealand393 contributionsJust AverageThis was an easy option for us on Sunday night as it was just down the road from our accommodation. Lots of different options to choose from but most mains are around the $20 - $25 range. We got a BBQ Surf and Turf (lamb chops and prawn Skewers with rice, salad and coconut sauce) to share (large portion size!). The flavors were great but the lamb was tough and chewy. Had a great fruit smoothie ($10) from another stall too. Only gave this 3 stars as for the price you can get as good or better meals elsewhere with real plates and cutlery and a view. So go if you're in the area and want a wide range of choices but don't go out of your way for it.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 September 2023
- Dawn BBuckingham, United Kingdom76 contributionsSimple Street FoodI was recommended to go to the night market. Pleased I did, and not sure I'd do it again as it's simply local street food. If you like this sort of thing you'll love it. It's very popular - even when it's wet and windy, which it was when I went. There is a range of food available and locals go too. Definitely worth trying and you can decide whether you go more than once.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 September 2023

We got the BBQ Meat Lovers plate and the Honey BBQ pork belly plate, both were big servings and we enjoyed them both. For dessert we tried the ChurBros churros and OMG these were delicious!!! We had the deep fried snickers sundae and the double caramel churro. Seriously a must try!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 October 2023

Lots of different food to pick from. Nice evening out :)
I had the dumplings and they were great! But there are several different varieties of food you can pick from.

My Uncle & I visited the Cook Islands for the first time and we visited this market on a Thursday evening, on the very first day that we arrived in Rarotonga. We arrived at around 5.30pm and all the food stalls were already in full swing. We ordered the garlic prawn and the curry tiger prawn from the Seafood Man. Both the dishes came with a serving of rice and both were delicious! After finishing our meals, we decided to order a seafood curry to share, and it was also delicious. They are very generous with the prawns in all 3 dishes, I counted 18 prawns in my garlic prawn dish, and 13 large tiger prawns in the tiger prawn curry dish. The food was so good that we decided to come back here for dinner on Sunday evening. Each dish cost NZD23. The Muri Night Market only operates on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are staying in a resort or homestay in the Muri Beach and Lagoon area, this market is within walking distance for you. However, if you are staying on the other side of the island, as we did, I highly recommend that you rent a car to get here. Because the public buses stop operating at 4.30pm on weekdays and do not operate on weekends. We stayed at the Manuia Beach Resort and found out that the public bus system is unreliable and expensive! The taxi service is also very expensive, renting a car is the best option to get around the island.

The Muri night market was so enjoyable. A nice mix of Locals and tourists. Great selection of food, prawns, BBQ, egg rolls, crepes, and desserts. All served by locals in food booths. They piped in music on a nice quality sound system with a Polynesian beat. It was so fun to hang out on picnic tables, eat, and listen to the music. The people of Rarotonga are so beautiful, kin, and polite. We fly so welcome. If you stay on this island don.t miss this market!!!

We caught a $40 taxi-van from our accomodation to take four adults and two infants to the 'market' by Muri Lagoon, on the eastern side of Rarotonga. There, in a square the size of a couple of basketball courts beside the main road is the night market. You'd hardly call it a market - it's more a collection of stalls selling take-away food in foil containers to tourists seated around a central area of wooden tables. Mind you, the food is good, and you pay tourist prices. For me, the highlight was driving at night past the jagged silhouette of the mountains, and the clockwise bus return at $5 per person.

Muri night market is a very popular spot and despite the reviews I read prior to our trip, did not find the need to get there super early (we got there around 6pm) in order to get a good meal. In saying that though, we decided not to eat here as the prices were equal to a restaurant main meal price.
However, we did enjoy wandering around the food stalls to see what was on offer and were impressed at the variety of dishes available - everything from snack foods, main meals and desserts.
Near the exit we found a jewellery stand where a local husband and wife were selling their handmade black pearl creations for men and women. Not only were they stunning, the price was (as we discovered) the best we saw on the island. My husband got a beautiful woven bracelet with a black pearl centre which is absolutely gorgeous.

This small market is very nice, you can find food for everyone (meat, fish, vegs...)
The prices are pretty high but the quantities are generous, so a good compromise.
Most of the stands accept only cash !
You can eat on site, that's a very good thing.

I've been to Raro many times. The food at the Muri night market has become very expensive at about $25 a plate for some pretty ordinary (C grade) barbecued food, and the hygiene questionable. The queues can be very long at some stalls so get there at 5pm. Worth doing once on a trip to Raro
for the experience.

Great for a easy evening dinner with the family (mostly food). Different options - burgers, bbq, seafood, smoothies etc. Cash is king!

What nights do the Muri night markets open?
Is it possible to catch a local bus from Nautilus resort to the Muri night markets?

Sorry I only just saw your question, hope not too late. So, as for nights I think it’s wed, thur mon but honestly anyone local will tell you. We walked from our accomodation which took about 20 minutes and was further away than Nautilus. The funny thing is that the big hotels often put down the night market ... I suppose they don’t like the competition! We always found it very clean and good quality although I guess you have to be choosy about which seller you use. They have rules about food hygiene etc, this year there were several stalls cooking the food in front of you and we chose them. Also amazing home made cakes. Good luck.

Hi, we will be staying at the Edgewater resort in March what’s the best way to get to the market from there plz

Hey, we were in walking distance but the Edgewater is quite a way. You can get good deals on scooter or car hires (the more time you are there the cheaper per day) just shop around. Or the bus would be best - while not always on exact time, the bus is a great place to meet people and very friendly drivers. All the resorts have timetables at the front desk that will show when they stop by - the good thing with your resort is they go right in to pick you up & you don’t need to wait by the road.
Happy travelling :)

It's either Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday or
Wednesday Thursday Friday..
Make sure you go early, say around 5/6pm to get food!
Ask any of bus drivers or locals they'll tell you..( I think it's the first one, Tuesday Wednesday Thursday!)
Have fun!
